My eyes were the size of saucers when I turned and locked gazes with a pair of silver orbs. I was frozen like a deer in headlights as I stared up at him, my heart seizing in my chest.
A twisted smirk slithered across his lips, his eyes glinting mischievously. I forced myself to hold his gaze, studying his pupils like my life depended on it. Dread settled in the pit of my stomach as he bore a hole straight through me.
Immediately, I knew—
"That's not me," a voice whispered in my ear.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my hallucination standing to my left, staring at the strange lookalike with eyes full of horror. He was stating what I already knew. Whoever this individual was, he wasn't Cedric. Not even close. Polyjuice. Has to be. But who would do such a thing? Who would Polyjuice themselves as Cedric? And why?
"Elliana, that's not me," my hallucination repeated much more firmly, shaking his head.
The lookalike's smirk grew as he quirked a brow, waiting for me to speak. Of course, it would come as no surprise that I was at a loss for words.
Amy, however, had no such issue.
"You know him?" She asked me, looking back and forth between us with curious eyes.
"Oh, she knows me quite well, I'm afraid," the familiar-looking stranger was quick to say, his lips pulling back to expose his teeth.
The gesture was meant to be a smile, but it more so resembled a grimace to me. It looked so out of place on a face that was meant to belong to Cedric. When he stepped towards me, I instinctively took a step back, bile rising in my throat as I stared up at him, angling myself between him and my friends.
Aaron and Corbin exchanged a glance before Corbin walked towards me and asked, "Is everything okay?"
The lookalike narrowed his eyes at my concerned friend, his jaw ticking.
"Mind your business, Muggle," he sneered, his chilling gaze shifting to me.
"..Muggle?" Corbin knitted his brows in confusion.
"Sounds like some sort of British insult," Aaron whispered to him, rocking back and forth on his heels in a nervous manner.
When the Polyjuiced individual glared at my three friends with utter annoyance, I straightened my shoulders, feigning bravery as I asked, "Who are you?"
The 'familiar' stranger placed a hand over his chest in mock offense. "Why, I'm your best friend, of course. Your best friend that needs to have a private word with you..." He glanced at my three friends in annoyance before nodding towards the privacy of the woods surrounding the parking lot.
