||Elliana's P.O.V.||

After study hall (my last block), I found myself walking towards the parking lot, searching for a head full of bronze hair. I didn't get a proper chance earlier to apologize to Edward for my rude disappearance yesterday, so I was hoping to speak with him after school.

"You have nothing to apologize for," Cedric spoke up from beside me. "You did nothing wrong."

I opened my mouth to object when the sound of a melodic voice came from over my shoulder.

"Elliana," he called my name, causing me to pause mid-step.

Immediately, my heart skipped a beat before I spun around on my heels and came face to face with a smiling Edward Cullen.

"..Hey," I breathed out, returning his genuine smile.

He rocked back and forth on his heels, rubbing the back of his neck in a sheepish manner before asking, "Are you... Are you busy?"

Cedric rolled his eyes with such force that I wouldn't have been surprised if they got stuck in the back of his head. "Yes, she is busy," he quipped through gritted teeth, as though Edward would be able to hear him.

My mouth fell open, surprised by his tone.

Ced gave me a pointed look before taking a step forward and stating, "Come on, Elliana. Let's go."

I looked at him in confusion, blinking slowly. What's his deal?

Edward quirked a brow, his hopeful expression wavering. "If you are, that's okay. I was just hoping to speak with you for a bit.."

Cedric pressed his lips into a terse line, looking thoroughly annoyed. I, too, was frustrated, but my frustration wasn't directed towards Edward. Luckily, he didn't have to witness my best friend's rude behavior.

"No," I was quick to say. "I'm not busy. I was hoping to speak with you as well."

Edward's face lit up like a Christmas tree, his golden eyes dancing. It was endearing how easy it was to cheer him up. No doubt, he longed for company, given the fact that everyone in his family were paired up. Being the third wheel would get old after several decades; or in his case, I guess he would be considered the seventh wheel? Whatever the case, I was sure he yearned for companionship; for someone to talk to.

And since I was the only person here in Waverly that knew of their secret, I was his only choice for a confidant. Not that I was complaining, of course. I thoroughly enjoyed his company, and judging by his playful demeanor, he felt the same.

"Great!" He beamed at me, nodding towards the woods that surrounded the school. "After you."

I wasted no time in obliging to his request, making haste towards the trees. Cedric scowled but fell in step with me, nonetheless. Edward was right on my heels, his footsteps completely silent behind me. A part of me couldn't help but envy the gracefulness he possessed without even trying.
