||Elliana's P.O.V.||
The past few days seemed to drag by. I've been having my mom drive me to school due to promising Edward that I would 'stay out of the woods'. I couldn't exactly apparate in the middle of the school parking lot or fly there on my broom, could I?
I was grateful when Friday rolled around, but my stomach was in knots as my mom drove down the winding road.
Cedric was sitting in the back seat staring out the window, his elbow propped up on the door, resting the side of his face against his hand. He looked... bored.
Over the past several days, he hadn't chosen to linger as much. He would appear every now and then, offering a comment or word of advice on my wizarding studies, but he was no longer by my side 24/7. Every now and then, I detected a weariness in his eyes. Putting it simply, he seemed... tired?
I had managed to keep myself occupied (for the most part) by studying Potions— A subject that I was worried I would fall behind in. But no matter how much I studied, I couldn't completely distract myself. Fear continuously pricked at the back of my mind.
I was worried. Plain and simple. I was worried about Edward and Emmett. And although I didn't know Jasper all that well, I was worried about him too (of course). Deep down, I knew they were perfectly capable of hunting down a 'rogue vampire'. It was three against one. The odds were in their favor. But what if it wasn't? What if there was more than one? What if it was all a trick? What if—
"Elliana, they're going to be fine," Cedric interrupted my internal rant, releasing a sigh.
Mom turned into the parking lot and flashed me a small smile when she put the car in park. Just as I was unbuckling my seatbelt, she started digging through her purse.
"Since you've decided to attend a 'regular' school, we think you should probably have this." She pulled out a phone and placed it in my hands, leaving no room for objection.
I inspected it with curious eyes. Being a Muggle-born, I was familiar with electronics. When I was younger, I even had a flip-phone there for a while, but it was quickly tossed to the side when I found myself immersed in the world of magic. As I studied the shiny object, I realized just how different it was from my old 'flip-phone'.
"It's an iPhone," she said to me, her smile growing. "You'll figure it out. I even set it up for you. Your father and I are already listed as contacts. And there's an 'In Case of Emergency' option. That's always important to have set up. I've assigned us as your emergency contacts, of course. I know you've told me countless times that magic and electronics don't mix, but I would honestly feel better if you have a cellphone, Ellie, now that you're out in the real world—"
"Thank you," I blurted out, putting an end to her well-rehearsed monolog. "And you're right. This place is... different from Hogwarts. And I'm sure having a 'cellular device' will help me blend in."
