||Flashback||
It was a Monday. A rainy, overcast, dreary, gray Monday. Mundane.
Last night, I slithered in through Bella's window, like every other night. Except it wasn't like every other night. Since my return, she has been... distant. But last night, it was as though she wasn't even there at all. Her mind seemed to be a world away. She had a faraway look in her eyes. As a matter of fact, she could hardly look me in the eyes at all.
Fear wrapped around my heart at her aloof behavior.
"Is something wrong?" I questioned her, watching as she pored over a book at her desk.
She forced her eyes from the pages and hesitantly met my gaze. "I'm just studying," she mumbled, quickly diverting her attention to the textbook once more.
Clearly, I wasn't convinced. I knew her like the back of my hand, so I was well-aware that something was bothering her. But I also knew better than to push her. If I tried to pull information from her, she would clam up. So, I settled for reveling in her silent company, watching as she flipped from page to page.
Finally, after what felt ages, she closed the book and turned off the lamp, glancing towards me with a smile that was so obviously forced that it physically pained me.
"I'm going to go ahead and go to bed," she spoke, standing up and folding her arms across her chest.
Glancing at the clock, I took note that it was only a little after nine p.m. She never went to bed before ten.
"Are you feeling all right?" I asked, studying her with worried eyes.
She blinked rapidly before clearing her throat and dropping her gaze to the floor. "I'm actually not feeling all that great."
"What are your symptoms?" Immediately, I began to assess her, looking for any signs of illness.
Her cheeks were slightly flushed, but that wasn't unusual for her. Aside from that, I didn't detect any physical changes.
"Um." She pulled her lower lip between her teeth, her heart skipping a beat. "I just.. Um.. I have a headache. A-And my stomach hurts."
I pursed my lips in thought, mentally raddling off a multitude of potential diagnoses.
"You could possibly be dehydrated. Have you been drinking enough?" I questioned her, growing concerned.
She shrugged half-heartedly. "I don't know. I mean— I could be dehydrated.."
My eyes narrowed into slits. "Well, you were at the rez today. Did Jacob not ensure that you were staying adequately hydrated?"
