I opened and closed my mouth repeatedly, at a complete loss for words as I slowly stood up, clutching my book to my chest as though it was my anchor. The golden-eyed boy flashed me a dazzling smile as he handed me my papers which I accepted with shaky hands.
I dropped my gaze to the floor, my heart beating a mile a minute.
"..Thanks," I mumbled before spinning on my heels and making a beeline for the restroom, desperate to escape.
I stayed in the restroom, staring at my horrified expression in the mirror until it was past time for my next class to start.
When I walked into Biology, my heart stopped beating in my chest.
There he was.. Could my luck get any worse?
He looked up, meeting my gaze and flashing me a glorious smile that had me too stunned to move.
"Elliana," Mr. Larkins greeted me. "Looks like you have a lab partner after all."
I ignored everyone's curious stares as I hesitantly made my way to my seat. My heart was quite literally in my throat as I sat down beside him, trying and failing not to grow nervous under his gaze.
I did everything in my power not to steal a peek at the look-alike boy sitting next to me. I told myself that if I pretend he doesn't exist, everything would make sense somehow. That doesn't even make sense, does it?
His eyes never left my face— I could tell. He was studying me with scrutinizing intensity, as though he was picking apart my every detail— As though he was dissecting me with his mind.
Goosebumps erupted all over my body under his watchful gaze, causing me to shiver involuntarily. My stomach was doing flip-flops. Was I going to be sick?
My mind was racing a mile a minute. How could this be? How does he look like him? Why? He's not him. There's no way. It couldn't be, could it? Could it?
When Cedric's sun-kissed face apparated directly in front of me, I gasped, nearly jumping out of my seat in surprise. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the strange look-alike narrow his eyes at me. Clearly, he was confused by my puzzled expression and wild, frantic eyes.
I squeezed my eyes shut, mentally willing for Cedric to disappear. I couldn't handle seeing the both of them at the same time. My heart could only handle so much.
"...Hello," the boy to my left spoke in a smooth, elegant-sounding voice that sounded eerily similar to my friend while also sounding like it belonged in another century all together.
"I didn't get a chance to introduce myself earlier.. I'm Edward Cullen," he once again spoke in that musical voice.
I feared my heart was going to give out. How is it that he sounds just like him while simultaneously sounding completely different? This boy's voice lacked a British accent, but he shared the same timbre as Cedric. There was also a musical quality to his voice that my best friend didn't possess. He sounded.. enchanting. That was the best word I could think of to describe it.
