Hill Valley Elementary School, late evening...
"It's just up here a few hundred feet but it'd be quieter to walk." Otis said as the three of them exited the vehicle. Throwing on backpacks and warily trekking up the small hill to overlook the school. It sounded as overrun as Herschel had warned them, it smelled as overrun.
"Down here," Shane nodded to Elle as the girl silently crouched behind an ambulance. "Let's take a look." He mumbled, the trio slowly peaked up over the upturned emergency vehicle to see a courtyard full of groaning corpses.
"Well shit," Elle huffed, "We can't take that many without causing ungodly amounts of noise. Especially, with it being dark, it'd draw them like flies to honey."
"I know, kid,"
"Those medical trailers up there, that's where we need to get to." Otis pointed west of where they were stationed.
"Yeah, no shit. I definitely didn't think the big sign labeled Emergency Medical Services was where we needed to be." Elle rolled her big eyes as Shane shot her a look.
"It's gonna be best for us to go around the back." Otis suggested, looking at his counterparts and ignoring Elle's attitude since it was significantly less than when he first met her.
"Don't matter where we come from, if that hoard sees us we're as good as dead." Shane grumbled before noticed the row of parked police cars. "Hold on, give me a second." he whispered, crawling up to the front door and slowly pulling its creaking hinges open. Elle winced in time with the god awful squeak as the trunk popped open, luckily Otis caught it before it made too much noise.
"Yeah baby, right here." Shane grinned, pulling out a bundle of six flares. "Got a lighter?" Elle nodded, pulling Tucker's out of her pocket and lighting one of the flares. Watching carefully as Shane tossed it into the crowd of walkers. The mindless crowd walked to it immediately... what do you know, it worked.
"How long will those burn?" Otis asked, letting Elle light the flares before he and Shane threw them across the courtyard.
"Fifteen to thirty minutes,"
"Great, let's get a move on." Elle huffed, pocketing her lighter and tightening the straps on her backpack. "Come on," She stressed, ushering the men to follow her around the back of the vehicles to the trailer.
"There will be a latch on the underside of that board, pull it." Otis instructed, Elle nodded yanking on the latch and having a door she hadn't even seen pop open.
"Up, up, up," Shane spoke to Elle, giving her a boost with his hands as she jumped into the trailer. Immediately pulling out her flashlight and looking for the supplies.
"Shane, look for meds in the crash carts. You know painkillers from being a cop but anything that ends in -cillin, or -floxacin, or -mycin." Elle demanded, looking through the mess of medical supplies.
