The Greene Farmhouse, early afternoon...
"What happened?" Beth finally asked as her father finished taking her blood pressure and checking her pulse and about every other thing to monitor her health.
"You were in shock, sometimes our bodies don't know how to react to trauma." Herschel answered.
"We gave you a sedative yesterday, it helped remove the stress from your body so the IV could really do its job," Tucker explained from where he sat in a wooden chair in the corner of Beth's room.
"I appreciate you and your mother's help," Herschel nodded, a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "I need to go check on our other patient, I'll come back later."
"Thanks, Daddy," Beth's voice was small and polite until her father left and the door clicked shut. "How long have you been in here?" She asked Tucker pointedly.
"On and off for the last two days,"
"Why?"
"You were my patient, my mom needed me to make sure your medications were administering correctly." Tucker sighed, leaning back a little into the chair. "She and Maggie had farm chores and peacekeeping... but me? Ain't no one really notice if I'm not around."
"And you sat in that chair the whole time?" She asked.
"Bethy there's gonna be an imprint of my ass in this chair forever." The blonde girl chuckled with a real smile as she gazed at the boy across the room. Tucker stood up and opened the blinds, letting the afternoon sun enter her room. "How are you feeling?"
"A little better," she said honestly, "not great."
"I get it, it's hard. Living in a world where you can't possibly predict what's going to happen next." The boy agreed, snapping his eyes up to the door when it pushed open.
"Hey you two, I see you've let the light in." Lori smiled at Tucker as she set a tray of food down on Beth's bedside table.
"It's a nice day,"
"It is, how about this, you eat up all your food and we'll get you outta here. Take a walk around the farm," Lori looked at Beth with the soft motherly gaze the Adams siblings loved so much about her.
Beth however just stared up at the brunette before mumbling under her breath. "You're pregnant? How could you do that?"
Tucker stiffened in the chair he'd grown so accustomed to as Lori sucked in a breath. "I don't really have a choice, do I?"
"You think it's going to make any difference?"
"I do, now eat your food." Lori sighed, beckoning Tucker to follow her to give the girl her peace.
"Sorry," The blonde muttered as he followed Lori down the hallway.
"Don't need to be, it's what happens." She smiled softly as she wrapped her arm around the seventeen-year-old. "Wanna help me fix some more lunch for everyone else?"
