The Barn, late afternoon...
The air that hovered over the farm was thick, sticky and heavy.
Heavy with sorrow, with anguish, with anger. There wasn't one set emotion that could be described as the group of survivors all stood amid the decaying bodies.
Carl clung to his mother with tears streaming off his face after watching his best friend stumble out of the barn and into gunfire. He knew she probably was dead, but it didn't hurt any less when he locked eyes with her corpse.
Crying was actually all that could be heard. Carol wailed, sobbed for her deceased daughter in between Daryl's stern instructions to not look. Finally in a fit of rage she pushed him away and ran off to the trailer. Nearly tripping on loose rocks and tree branches because her vision was so blurred. So hazed with grief and tears.
And Beth, poor Elizabeth Greene only sixteen years old. Same as Tucker Adams but they seemed world's apart. Tucker was hard and callous, in growing up with a father like his but Beth? She was soft, like fresh picked berries and warm cinnamon milk.
Her cries were the hardest to listen to, she seemed so young as Jimmy tried to console her. She cried out in big heaves before separating herself from her boyfriend and walking towards the grave of bodies.
"Hey, hey, stay back." Rick warned her, extending his arm out. She simply pushed past him as she searched through the mess of corpses.
"Beth, we're serious. Stay back, don't look." Tucker walked in front of her, holding his hands up in innocence. Proving his gun was holstered with the safety on. "Come on, let's just go back." He whispered, a hand on her shoulder but when Beth met his eye Tucker's stomach churned.
Her blue eyes looked navy with how dark they'd grown. Filled to the brim with ire and hollow with sadness at the same time.
"No! You killed my mom! You killed my mom!" She screamed, pushing past him and falling to her knees. Tucker looked down as she moved the arm of another walker off a woman. Turning the walker over and holding her face.
"I didn't kill her, she was already gone." Tucker attempted to console the blonde but the guilt he felt was unmatched.
He didn't know that was her mom, all he saw was a threat.
"Ma?" Beth cried, but jumped back in fear when Annette's eyes shot open. She reached up and pulled at Beth's hair, yanking her down to her level before snapping her decaying teeth at the girl.
"Beth!" Tucker dove towards her, pushing Annette away before pulling the knife from his belt. He gently stuck her in the brain stem, allowing her to fall limp. Beth backed away in horror, sliding her feet against the dirt in an attempt to get away as fast as she could. "It's okay," Tuck held his hands up, the blood dropping off the knife and down his forearm not doing him any favors.
