After the final bell rang and everyone left the school building, I was once again sitting in the backseat of Evan's car. Only this time I wasn't alone. Jasper was sitting beside me with his eyes locked on his phone. I didn't bother to look to see who he was texting because I didn't care to know. I knew that it was between Makayla and Ryder. Out of everyone in the group, those were the only two people he would talk to outside of school. I could feel the tension in the car between us growing thick.

I couldn't get his look out of my face when he caught me talking to Preston. I began to wonder if he was upset that I decided to make a new friend without his help or if he just didn't like Preston. But how could that be possible? He'd never met him before. I thought about asking him but Evan and Natalie were getting in the car by that time. I sat back in my seat when Evan started up his car and began pulling out of his parking spot.

"Do you need anything from the store, babe?" Evan asked his girlfriend.

"Mmm," she thought for a second before shaking her head. "No, I don't."

"Okay."

He drove out of the parking lot, stopping at the stop sign before proceeding down the road. We were on our way to his and Jasper's house for the last day of the week that made up our schedule. The car ride was an awkward silence, at least to me it was. Maybe they didn't feel it because Natalie was playing with Evan's hair while he drove and Jasper was still on his phone.

It was definitely just me then.

"Are you ready for practice tomorrow, Jasper?" Evan asked, breaking the silence just to start a conversation with his brother who by the way didn't seem like he wanted to speak.

"Yeah," he replied in a low tone.

I noticed Natalie and Evan looking at each other and from the side of their face, I could tell that they both heard the annoyance in his tone. She looked over her shoulder making eye contact with me.

"What's up with him?" she mouthed and I just shrugged my shoulders.

She turned back around in her seat and I glanced over at the male beside me. I really didn't know what his problem was. Ever since we first got to school this morning and Evan brought up Makayla he's been in a mood. Then after lunch when I was walking with Preston he seemed to be in a worse mood. All my life that I have spent with him I have never seen this side of him. He always seemed to be unbothered by everything but he never showed his attitude toward anyone. Not even toward his brother.

Our ride from school finally came to an end by the time Evan was backing into the driveway of his house. He shut it off then unlocked the doors and this time Jasper didn't rush out of the car. Instead, he was still seated with his seatbelt on and his eyes were no longer on his phone. Evan and Natalie both unbuckled their seatbelts and then opened their doors getting out of the car but there was something that kept me from moving. I needed to talk to Jasper one on one. Once their doors closed I turned slightly in my seat so I was able to look at him.

"Jasper," I spoke softly and finally he looked at me. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah Ash," he responded.

I couldn't hear the anger or annoyance in his tone this time so that was a good sign. But I still had to keep the conversation going just to make sure. "This morning you seemed pissed," I stated.

He let out a sigh. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Was he serious?

"You got out of the car and didn't bother to close your door," I went on. "You didn't even want to walk with me and Evan like we usually do."
