Once school was out and Evan and Natalie got back to the house Jasper and I both left with them so we could get to their basketball practice. Of course, we had to wait for Evan to get ready so I was still hanging out with Jasper in his room. We eventually decided to turn off the game and get on our phones. I could feel my heart racing because I knew what I did. I didn't want Jasper to be on his phone because I knew that he would see that Makayla was the one who called him. I kept glancing up at him to check his expressions but they were hard to read.

What the hell was going through his mind?

"So apparently Sasha and Ryder are talking," Jasper spoke up suddenly. He looked up from his phone and his eyes locked with mine.

"Really?" I questioned.

"Yeah."

He turned his phone towards me and I skimmed through the text from Ryder.

Ryder: I'm in the next stage with Sasha.

Why didn't he text me?

"That's great," I said with a smile. "I'm happy for them."

"Everyone should be," Jasper said, looking down at his phone and moving his thumbs across the keyboard to text Jasper back.

The room fell silent again and I found myself staring at him again. Maybe he didn't look at his notifications which is why he didn't know about the call from Makayla. I opened my mouth to say something else but wasn't able to because Jasper's phone started ringing again.

Fuck. Makayla.

Did she know that I was thinking about her? Not like that. But his phone kept ringing. I looked down at his phone, watching him hover his thumb over the green button but he didn't press it. I looked up at him again and raised my eyebrow.

"Are you going to answer?" I asked. "I could leave the room if-"

Decline.

He turned off his phone and then looked up at me. "I'd rather talk to her face to face at school tomorrow," Jasper said. I nodded in understanding because it did make sense. "And plus I don't want her to throw me off my game at practice."

"Makes sense."

There were two knocks on his door and I turned around to look over my shoulder to see Evan and Natalie both standing in the doorway.

"Ready?" Evan asked.

"Yeah," Jasper replied.

He quickly stood up from his spot on his bed and then made his way to the door, walking past his brother, and my sister and I soon followed. The four of us made our way down the stairs so we could get to the front door and Jasper grabbed his gear bag which was by the door. He pulled it open and stepped outside but took the time to hold the door open for me. I guess he wasn't completely zoned out after all.

"Thank you," I said softly as I walked past him, exiting the house.

"No problem."

I stopped at the end of the driveway by Evan's car and waited by the backseat behind the passenger and Jasper was on the side behind the driver. Evan and Natalie were the last two to leave the house and they walked down the driveway hand in hand. Evan held up his car keys, unlocking the car so we could get in and we wasted no time sliding into the back seat. We closed our doors and fastened our seatbelts and soon the two lovebirds got in the front seats.

Evan started up the car, pulled out the driveway then we were on our way to the school, in a long and quiet ride. I already knew that the brothers were extremely late for practice considering it always starts when school ends. But since Jasper and I decided to stay home, Evan had to take the extra trip back home to pick us up and then take us to school. I could tell that he was irritated still from this morning just by his body language and the lack of eye contact with me and Jasper. Then after practice, we would go to my and Natalie's house. I guess I should make sure I give him money for gas.
