There was only fifteen minutes left of our last period and after our teacher finished wrapping up her lecture, she let us talk before the final bell rang. Since the class started, I haven't said a single word to Jasper, and he hasn't looked in my direction. We were sitting right beside each other and I knew the tension between us was thick. But finally I decided to turn towards him so I could get what was on my mind off of my chest. Jasper lied to me about breaking up with Makayla.
"Why did you lie?"
He turned towards me but let out a groan and rolled his eyes. "What are you talking about Ash?" he questioned.
"Did you and Makayla break up?"
His face changed and probably thought I wasn't going to find out so quickly. How long did he even plan on holding onto this lie?
"Ash-"
"Don't lie to me again, Jasper," I said, quickly cutting him off.
"I told you that we broke up."
"That's not what Ryder said."
I didn't mean to bring Ryder into this conversation especially since he wasn't present but it just slipped out. Hopefully Jasper wouldn't go back to him and snap on him because of me.
"Ryder-"
"He saw you two kissing in the hallway before second period," I added. "He said that you didn't tell him that you and Makayla broke up so was that also a lie?"
He wasn't giving me any clear answers. While he was staring at me, that's all that he was giving me. A blank stare while he thought about another way to lie his way out of this conversation.
"Was it?"
"I didn't lie to you Ash," he said this time in a calm demeanor to make it seem like he was telling the truth. That wasn't going to work on me.
"I-"
"Are you really going to believe him over me? I'm your friend, Ash. Why the hell would I lie to you about breaking up with Makayla?"
"Because you thought that was something that I wanted to hear." Now I was running out of things to say. "You and I are friends. We're best friends that do everything together. Or... used to do everything together then she came along. You already thought I was jealous of her so you tell me that you 'broke up' with her because, I don't know, maybe you thought my reaction was going to be different. Well, it's not."
"You said it yourself that she changed me. I noticed it so I got rid of her. What else do you want from me, Ash?"
"Honesty." I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head. "I just want the truth from you Jasper."
"Me and Makayla breaking up was the truth. Me telling Ryder about it wasn't but it's because I forgot. He wasn't on my list of people that should know about my relationship."
"So Ryder lied about you and her kissing in the hallway?"
"Yes."
The more I looked at Jasper the less pain I felt. I wanted to believe that he wouldn't lie to me but I also wanted to believe that Ryder wouldn't lie to me either.
"If you still don't believe me... I'll... I'll tell Natalie and Evan."
Was he serious? Jasper didn't want to tell them anything like this that went wrong in his relationships. Especially to find out that the reason he broke up with her was because she cheated on him.
"Okay," I decided to say and that was the end of our conversation.
The final bell rang, ending the day and all the students rushed out of the classroom. Me and Jasper were the only two still stuck in our seats with our eyes locked on each other. I couldn't move but finally Jasper stood up, slinging his backpack over his shoulder and I soon followed behind him. Like I said before, I didn't like to walk in crowds as soon as class got out but my last period gave me no choice. When Jasper leaves, so do I. I didn't want Evan to leave me stranded at school and yes, that is exactly what he would do. Unless Natalie was able to stop him and wait for me but I doubt she would do something like that.
