27: She didn't know

It's been a whirlwind of emotions these past few weeks. The nights blurred into mornings as we hopped from one bar to another, experiencing what they call the "young, wild, and free" lifestyle. If the semester hadn't started, I bet we'd still be out there, exploring every corner of this city.

Sa halos dalawang linggo ko rito, naging close na ako sa circle of friends nila Analise at Desmond.  Nalaman ko rin na anak sila ng mga ka-business partners ni Tito Klyde. 'Yong iba naman, pamangkin, gaya ko. Ang kukulit nila lahat, mas lalo na iyong mga lalaki. 

I learned that Analise and Trevor aren't officially together. They just have a friendly fling, nothing serious.  Wala rin naman akong pakialam kahit na official sila. Ano bang pakialam ko?

Akala ko visual arts lang ang ino-offer nila rito sa Del Fianza Arts Academy, iba't-iba pala. May literature, visual arts, graphic arts, plastic arts, decorative arts, performing arts, music, at interior design. Visual arts ang kinuha kong major na kasama ko naman sila Desmond at Analise. Si Kreena at Emerald naman ay music and kinuha habang si Chester at Jeremy naman ay graphic arts. Si Teddy naman ay plastic arts ang kinuhang major, nakita ko ang iba niyang gawang sculpture no'ng pumunta kami sa bahay nila, ang gaganda. Family of sculptures sila. Trevor, on the other hand, enrolled in literature. He doesn't look the part, but according to Analise, he's a talented writer.

"Are you okay, Babe?" tanong ni Desmond sa akin. Pareho kami ng schedule ng first class kaya sinundo niya nalang ako sa bahay. Kanina ko pa pinipigilan ang sarili ko pero halata pa rin pala sa itsura ko. "You look pale. Let's get you checked first before we proceed to the academy." Tumango nalang ako. Sobrang sakit ng tyan ko. Maybe I'm just anxious about starting school in a new place. I also feel queasy, like my stomach's too acidic. I tried to hold back the urge to vomit, especially since this is Desmond's new car.

"Babe! You're b-bleeding," tarantang sambit ni Desmond sa akin habang pasulyap-sulyap sa paanan ko. Binilisan niya ang kanyang pagmamaneho, halos lumipad na kami sa daanan. Kumikirot ang tiyan ko, parang tinutusok. Pakiramdam ko sinasaksak ang tyan ko ng paulit-ulit. 

"Hey, Babe, hang in there." Hinawakan niya ang kamay ko at ramdam ko ang init nito. Sa aming magkakaibigan, si Desmond ang parang tatay namin. He was responsible enough to remind us to always take care of ourselves. Kahit minsan parang timang kasi sobra mang-asar.

After about ten minutes, we arrived at a hospital. They took me to the emergency room, asking for personal information before putting me in a hospital gown. Soon after, I blocked out from the intense pain.

Paggising ko, nakita kong naka-swero ako at nakahiga na sa isang private room. Halos hindi tumigil ang aking luha sa pagtulo. Naninikip na rin ang dibdib ko dahil naalala ko nanaman si Mama. Mamamatay na ba ako? Kung mamamatay man ako, ayaw ko sa ospital, please lang!

"Hey, Dy. Why are you crying? May masakit ba? I'll call the nurse." Tumigil ako sa pag-iyak ng lumabas si Analise. Bakit kasi kailangan pa nila akong i-swero? Ano ba naging diagnosis?

Pumasok naman agad iyong doktor at tinignan ang vital signs ko. Nagsulat-sulat ito sa kanyang hawak na clipboard. "How are you feeling Ms. Del Fianza?" tanong nito sa akin habang nagsusulat pa rin sa kanyang clipboard.

Sinubukan kong umupo pero kumirot ang puson ko. Bakit gano'n? Pakiramdam ko may tinanggal sa akin.

"I have some bad news, Ms. Del Fianza." Kinabahan ako sa tono ng boses nito. Huminga muna ito nang malalim bago muling nagsalita.

"You lost your...baby. I'm sorry." The doctor's words didn't sink in. I just stared at her, unable to speak.

"Let me know if you need anything." 'Yon ang huli niyang sinabi bago tuluyang lumabas ng kwarto. Analise approached me and held my hand. That's when I snapped back to reality. I didn't realize I was pregnant. I hadn't had my period for a few months, but my cycle was irregular anyway.
