Chapter 4 ~ Herbology and Potions

The next morning you woke up and jumped out of bed in an amazing mood. Owlbus flew around the room, excited you were awake. You fed and played with him for a little then got yourself dressed in your uniform. "I'm off to breakfast Owlbus." you gave each other a little kiss then walked to your door. 

When you opened it Lavander, Poppy, and Penelope were standing there about to knock. Poppy and Penelope ran and gave you a hug. You hugged them back, "how did you two sleep?" The girls smiled, "Great!" they both said. "We put our beds together." Poppy admitted. 

"Poppy, you have Charms, and Penelope you have Lupin. I can walk you Pen, it's on my way to Herbology." You said looking their schedules, they had no clue where they were going. You were sitting with Poppy and Penelope at breakfast going over their class schedule. Cedric came up and sat with you. "Hey, how goes it?" He smiled. "Pops and Penelope need help finding their classes and I forgot to make them maps this summer." You were stressed, you couldn't believe you forgot to make their maps.

 Cedric looked over to the girls' schedules. "I can walk Poppy to Charms, I have a class down the hall." Poppy looked at Cedric. Poppy and Penelope know who Cedric is but have never met him. During the sorting ceremony, Cedric was focusing on his little sister Colette who was also sorted into Hufflepuff. So, they didn't know what he looked like. "That's Cedric Pops, remember I told you about him?"

Poppy turned back to you and smiling ear to ear, "I remember you telling me about him."

Herbology

You walk into Herbology, breathing in the smell you've missed from the greenhouse, you instantly relaxed. You walk over to your table, waiting to start. 

"Hufflepuff..." You turn around to find Draco looking at you while walking away. You smiled and said, "Yes, good observation." Draco stopped, rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath this time, "stupid Hufflepuff." He was burning with annoyance.

Draco has tried to bother you since you were little. Jade, your mother, and Draco's mother were all friends. Lav's mother and Draco's mother Narcissa were friends when they were students at Hogwarts as Slytherins. Jade being friends with your mother and Narcissa they all three became friends during school. You three used to play while your mothers had tea. Well, it was more Lavander, and you played, and Draco tried to take your toys or tear down things you built. 

Draco stopped wanting to come over when you all turned four, but still Narcissa comes over to your or Lav's house to have tea with your mothers. You and Lavander would have your own tea parties like the grownups, and loved Draco wasn't there to put toads in your tea or dirt in your hair.

You never understood why he didn't like you, every time you saw him you felt his annoyance towards you. tried to call you names but you couldn't be bothered. And the less bothered you were, the more bothered he was.

 You thought now that you are 18 things would change. But they haven't, Draco actually has tried harder to get you to cry or have any reaction at all to his words the past three years. This year he started with muttering Hufflepuff like that was an insult.

Professor Sprout did a review from the previous year and a quiz to see what you remember. As you were taking the quiz you felt Draco's eyes again, you looked in his direction. He was across you to the left. He didn't even notice you looking at him, he was too busy trying to peek at your test.

'Seriously? it's the first day you're already cheating?' you thought while looking at him. He noticed your quill wasn't moving anymore and his eyes met yours. 

You and he stared at each other for a second, you don't know what it was but something in your chest kept you there. You felt a slight pressure in your chest, almost like a weight suddenly appeared in there. He tightened his eyes, furrowed his eyebrows, and looked back at his paper. You leave the trance and the pressure was just gone. You go back to your quiz.

Potions

"Turn to page three hundred and nighty four." Snape said in his always unamused voice crossing his arms. You tried your best to focus but unfortunately Draco was assigned to sit beside you. You could feel all his angry and negative emotions and felt his eyes. You tried not to think about him, but you couldn't figure out what that was earlier with Draco.

'What the fuck was that pressure in my chest when I looked into his eyes? And why couldn't I move? Was I paralyzed or did my body just freeze back there?'

"Professor Snape," you pleaded after class after everyone left, "Draco hates me, why does he have to sit by me, be my project partner and now I have to tutor him?" Snape stood up; he looked so stiff. "Miss Y/L/N, I understand that you and Mr. Malfoy are not... on the best of terms, but Mr. Malfoy needs to make sure he has decent grades. He is the seeker for Slytherin, surely you understand being the seeker for Hufflepuff."

Snape had kept you after class to tell you about your new extracurricular of tutoring Draco twice a week. You looked down at the desk thinking and trying to keep your patience. You understood where Snape was coming from, you would be crushed if you couldn't play Qidditch. But other smart people existed in this school.

"I do understand professor, but respectfully why does it have to be ME?" You said this while looking him straight in the eyes. Professor Snape sighed, "Miss Y/L/N you had the highest grades in everything last year, especially Potions and Herbology which is what he needs to work on this year. I trust in you more than any other student in this school." This was different. 

Not that snape liked you or anything, he didn't like anyone. He treated you slightly better because of your good grades and he didn't hate having you in Potions, but him complimenting your school success? He was begging.

"Fine." You spoke. "I'll do it." You thought you saw Snape... smile?
