Y/n's Pov

2 weeks later.

I put in my headphones and tied my running shoes.

Steve had already started his run.

The sun was just starting to rise over the Potomac River in Washington. The sky was still purple from the night, a pink hue was starting to take over where the sun was rising.

I stuck a headphone in and started my music before stretching. I pushed off the concrete and started a slow jog. I focused on my breathing and took in the scenery.

Steve and I had decided to come here for a few days to visit some monumental places. Today was our last day before we were going to head home. Every morning, Steve insisted on running this path.

Steve usually ran around our path 3 times before I made it around once. I had tried once to keep up with him but that quickly failed. I just settled to run around it once, it still was 4.5 miles.

As the sun was rising, I saw a man running ahead of me. I was slowly approaching him. I moved over to his left and started to pass him.

"NO! DON'T YOU DARE SAY IT!" The man screamed at me. I quickly moved off the path and tried to avoid him. I had no clue what he was talking about. I started to run faster to pass him but heard him speed up as well.

At this point I was sprinting away from him. I heard him slow down but I kept running. I couldn't find Steve so I decided to go get our car. I didn't want that mad man following me.

I had finally convinced Steve to let me drive my Corvette Stingray here. I loved my car but usually Steve wanted to drive his motorcycle or truck. Today he had given in and let me drive him.

Steve's Pov:

"Need a medic?" I yelled to a man I had passed a few times on my run. He was panting and gripping his side. He seemed to be in a lot of pain.

"I need a new set of lungs. Dude, you just ran like 13 miles in 30 minutes."

"Guess I got a late start." I teased, secretly happy with my time.

We continued to talk for a moment. Y/n was gone, I was assuming she was getting the car.

I found out the guy's name was Sam Wilson. He had served in the army and he knew who I was. Sam recommended a playlist to me. (I made sure to write it in the notebook Y/n had given me to make a checklist of things I had missed while I was asleep.)

I felt my phone buzz and saw Natasha had texted me.

Mission alert. Extract Imminent. Meet us at the curb. -Nat

"Alrighty, Sam, duty calls." I reached out my hand and grasped Sam's.

"Thanks for the run... If that's what you want to call it." I teased, smiling at him.

Sam's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Oh that's how it is?"

"Oh that's how it is."

"Okay," Sam laughed.

I turned to walk away before Sam continued, "Any time you wanna stop by the VA, make me look awesome in front of the girl at the front desk, just let me know..."

I turned and smirked, I already liked this guy.

"I'll keep that in mind."

"I turned and saw Y/n's car pull up to the sidewalk. The passenger window rolled down to reveal Y/n sitting in the passenger seat. Natasha drove Y/n's car. She took every opportunity to drive it.

Y/n opened the door and raised her eyebrow at Sam. I looked over at Sam and saw him look at her horrified.

"Hey boys." Y/n said plainly, looking back to me.

"Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is?" Nat said, opening her door and leaning up on the car.

"We're here to pick up a fossil." Y/n finished, looking at me seriously. To anyone else, she sounded dead serious. However, to me, I could hear her holding back her laughter.

"Hilarious." I walked over to Y/n and kissed her forehead quickly. She walked over to the other side of the car and motioned for Nat to get into the back.

Sam squatted down to look into the car while Y/n and I got in. Y/n looked over at Sam and smirked.

"How you doin?" Sam flirted innocently. Y/n rolled her eyes and just nodded to him in acknowledgment. I smiled wider as Y/n grabbed my hand.

"Can't run everywhere." I teased Sam.

"No, you can't."

Y/n smiled and waved while she rolled my window up. She let go of my hand and sped into traffic.

"No fair. You wouldn't let me go fast..." Natasha complained from the back.

"Nat, you can't even handle going the speed limit in my car." Y/n said, looking at her in the rear view mirrors.

I heard Nat slump against the seat and sigh. I looked over at Y/n and smiled.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nat smirking. I looked back and saw her make a heart in the air with her hands. I rolled my eyes and looked away.

"Did you know that guy?" Y/n asked, glancing over at me.

I looked over at her and saw her eyebrows raised. "I just met him, he seems nice. Super slow runner though. Maybe you'd get along." I smirked.

Y/n gasped and laughed before punching my arm. "Rude!"
