You take a deep breath, feeling the cool air rush into your lungs and the nervous energy course through your veins. Your heart is hammering in your chest, your palms are sweaty, and your stomach feels like it's full of butterflies. You can't help but wonder if this is what it feels like to be on the menu at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Because right now, you're the main course, and you're about to be served up to your boyfriend's sisters for the first time.
You had spent the whole morning preparing lunch together with Felix. He had reassured you at least a hundred times that you didn't need to be nervous, that his sisters would like you instantly. But you couldn't help and shake off the suffocating nervousness. After Felix left to go pick them up you felt the fear slowly creeping in.
You hear a car pull up outside, followed by the sound of footsteps. Your heart leaps into your throat as you hear the doorbell ring, and you know they're here. You take one last look in the mirror, trying to smooth down your shirt and tame a stubborn strand of hair. You can hear Felix's voice, muffled by the door. A moment later, the door swings open and there they are: two beautiful women, each bearing a striking resemblance to your boyfriend. They both smile warmly at you, and you muster up the courage to step forward to greet them.
"You must be y/n," says the older sister, her voice gentle with the all too familiar aussie accent. "I'm Rachel, and this is Olivia."
You can't help but notice the family resemblance between them, which strangely has a calming effect on you. It tricks your brain into thinking you already know them.
"It's nice to finally meet you both," you say, trying to sound more composed than you feel. "Felix's told me so much about you."
Rachel laughs warmly.
"Oh, he's told you about all of our quirks, has he?" She looks over at Olivia with a teasing grin. "You know how he is; he loves to embellish."
Felix begins to protest but Olivia waves him off like an annoying fly, earning a playful slap on her arm from Felix. The banter between the siblings brings a smile to your face.
"Well, I'm sure I'll get to know the real you soon enough," you say, hoping that it comes across as genuine.
Rachel claps her hands together, apparently satisfied with your response. You glance over at Felix, who is standing next to his sisters. He grins at you, clearly proud of the way you are handling this introduction. He's right; Rachel and Olivia seem very welcoming and friendly. You can feel some of the tension draining away from your shoulders.
"Please have a seat."
You gesture them to enter the living room where you had set up the table.
"Thanks." Olivia smiles at you before they all move into the living room.
As the lunch starts the conversation flows with ease and before you know it you find yourself laughing and joking with Felix's sisters. Felix keeps looking at you with twinkling eyes, visibly happy that your nervousness has disappeared.
After Rachel and Olivia left, Felix pulls you into a big hug.
"See, it wasn't that bad." he gently kisses your forehead.
You smile while nodding. "It wasn't bad at all."
"But why were you so nervous to meet them?"
"I guess...I guess because I know how close you are with them so I was scared that they wouldn't like me."
"There was no chance that they wouldn't love you. You are literally the sweetest being."
"Aww thanks babe."
You smile before leaning in and giving Felix a sweet kiss.
