All you were doing was watering flowers, and yet you had two eyes on you as you did. Always the pair loved to watch you, whatever you did. They were both mad for you. "Y/n swaaaan, I made you something sweet" Sanji called out, swaying as he walked over towards you. You wiped your hands from the dirt of the flowers and happily accepted the drink.
"Thank you Sanji" you smiled, the little action in itself causing the blonde man to swoon. A very loud 'tsk' could be heard across the deck, as the supposedly napping swordsman, was not doing what everybody thought he was. Instead he was watching with his eye not leaving the interaction. He wasn't an idiot, he wasn't as affectionate as the cook. So of course you'd favour Sanji for his kind words and actions.
It drove Zoro mad, he wanted to show you how he felt too, but he just wouldn't let himself be that vulnerable and not just that, he didn't want to look stupid. He had his subtle ways like sharing alcohol, food, or saving you a spot at the dinner table, but it wasn't enough.
"Got a problem?" Sanji turned looking at Zoro, and he threw back an equally as intense look. "Yeah you."
You looked between them with a sigh. Here they go again, they started to bicker throwing out insults at each other. You sipped on your drink as you just continued your gardening. It was like every other day so far, and the next week went on like that. For some reason they'd find themselves bickering and you had been the direct cause.
Sanji was in the galley late one night grumbling to himself over the 'stupid swordsman'. Though Sanji usually couldn't shake thoughts of you tonight the mosshead was creeping in..
Zoro up in the crows nest was having a similar problem. Sanji plagued his mind, and he tried to work out to push those thoughts away. Why was he thinking about that idiot. "Shit" he mumbled to himself. "Stupid curly brows".
He decided he needed some sake so he descended the ladder and headed into the galley where he caught Sanji mumbling to himself. "Does mosshead really like her too.. there's no way".
Zoro mused over Sanji's words for a second. He clearly didn't know he was stood right there. "You like y/n too huh?" He finally spoke up into the silent room. He noticed as Sanji visibly jumped at his interruption of his thoughts.
Sanji's head immediately whipped around. "You're joking. You actually like her?" Sanji's asked in disbelief. "Yeah I don't make it as obvious as you do love cook" Zoro rolled his eyes. So they both had the confirmation now.. that means it was a competition.
"That's because I know how to appreciate beauty and she's worth every compliment even if it's fallen on deaf ears" Sanji sighed, going back to cleaning plates.
Zoro let out a 'tsk' sound and grabbed the sake he came for. "You're too overbearing that's why" he took a swig of the bottle as he continued to be eyed up by the cook.
"Well I think she prefers overbearing to whatever hard to get game you play" Sanji jabbed at him. Zoro scoffed. "I don't play hard to get". Lighting a cigarette Sanji rolled his eyes.
"I bet she hates that nasty habit of yours too" Zoro pointed out. "Please like a raging drunk is any better" Sanji shot back. Clearly there was a lot of tension between the two men. It continued over into each day.
The crew noticed, you noticed, everyone noticed. Even on island days there were at each other throats, giving out insults nobody even understood.
Eventually being sent out on a run with the men you had enough. "Zoro stop walking off in random directions" you scolded trying to keep him on track.
"Moss head could get lost walking in a straight line" Sanji grumbled. Zoro ticked. "What was that?" He growled. You sighed and pulled them away from each other.
"Thats enough" you shouted. You looked between the two men. "You keep bickering like little children, more so than usual. What's going on?" You asked.
Zoro just grumbled but Sanji had no problem spilling the beans. "Y/n we don't mean to upset you, in fact the opposite..". Sanji fiddled with his cuffs on his sleeves as he spoke. "We both like you" he spoke for the swordsman.
"I kinda figured.." you awkwardly informed them. "But we're crew mates and it's clearly causing issues" you sighed. Zoro looked away with his arms folded and Sanji looked at you desperately waiting for you to say something more on the situation.
"You know I'd never choose between you both.. I couldn't" you continued. Sanji's eyes didn't lose hope but Zoro just tutted. "So you're not making a choice then?" Zoro mumbled. You regretfully shook your head.
Sanji's eyes lost the hope and so did the little spark in Zoro's. It was better this way. Because those two couldn't share if it was going to be the death of them.
