A/N: When I originally wrote this one on the 100K specials, I didn't think it'd get this much love and eventually become a three parter, totalling 17,143 words, but, here we are, and thank you so much! The day the Roger Pirates disbanded felt like the world had cracked open beneath your feet.
Roger had gathered the crew together, his usual broad grin in place as he explained his decision. "It's time" he had said, his voice full of conviction. "We've done what we set out to do. There's no more journey for me to take".
You remembered the silence that followed, the way your crewmates had exchanged glances, some angry, some heartbroken, and you, well, you didn't know what to feel.
Now, weeks later, you wandered aimlessly through a bustling port town, the world feeling strangely empty despite the crowds around you. Your swords were still strapped to your back, but they felt heavier than ever.
The Roger Pirates were gone. The Oro Jackson was no longer your home. And Roger... Roger was gone, too. You'd heard the whispers in every tavern and market square, Gol D. Roger had turned himself into the Marines. He was going to be executed.
The thought made your stomach churn, and yet you couldn't bring yourself to leave the town. Part of you hoped to hear more news, to understand why he had done it. But the other part of you, the part that hurt the most, couldn't let go of the fact that he had chosen to face his fate alone.
On the deck of the Moby Dick, Izou sat, the morning sun casting golden light over the open sea. He unfolded the latest newspaper, scanning it out of habit more than interest. But then, his eyes caught the headline, and his breath hitched.
-"Gol D. Roger Captured! Execution Imminent!"-
The image of Roger's confident smirk stared back at him from the page, and Izou felt a strange pang of disbelief. He barely registered the sounds of his crewmates laughing and shouting around him, his focus locked on the article. However, it wasn't Roger that filled his thoughts. It was you.
Izou leaned back, the newspaper slipping from his hands as memories of you flooded his mind. He remembered the fire in your eyes, the unwavering loyalty you'd had for your captain.
He wondered where you were now, how you were coping with the news. "Something on your mind?" Marco's voice broke through his thoughts. Izou glanced up, forcing a faint smile. "Just thinking".
Marco raised an eyebrow, but didn't press further, leaving Izou to his silence. Izou sighed, his gaze drifting to the horizon. It had been so long since he'd last seen you, but the thought of you still lingered, a constant undercurrent in his mind.
He couldn't help but wonder, if you were standing beside him now, what would you say?
You sat on the edge of the harbour, your legs dangling over the water as the sun dipped below the horizon. The waves lapped gently against the wooden posts, their rhythm steady and calming, but it did nothing to quiet the storm in your chest.
