Here is your happy ending guys!!
Luffy spent weeks, months, hauled up in the castle, in secret mourning. Eventually, despite his lack of involvement, his wedding day came around. He was being forced to marry this woman, rather than the one he loved, not that she'd take him at this point.
Everything was prepared, and before he knew it he was walking down the aisle, his bride to be at his side. She looked pretty sure.. but she wasn't her. She'd never be her. Maybe he could learn to love his wife to be, he didn't know.
Despite all the happy faces and cheers as the public caught glimpse of them, his usual smile was replaced with a tired look of resignation. To most it probably looked like he was nervous, perhaps overworked. He felt his bride to be squeeze his hand, probably assuming the same things. It's just nerves.
He scanned the crowd looking for her face in everyone, but of course, why would she come. It'd just be a slap in the face on top of everything else he had done. He let out a breath and continued walking until they reached the altar, where he knew in the next 15 minutes he'd officially be married, to someone he didn't even know.
Everything was a blur as he just repeated a bunch of words here and there. In sickness and in health, blah blah blah. Nobody told him weddings were so boring. His father would scold him if he was caught yawning though.
The officiant gestured for his fiancée to read her vows aloud, and so she did. Probably any other man would be brought to tears, many in the crowd would change places with Luffy in a heartbeat. He truly did try his best to listen, and as she finished he began his.
"My wife to be.." he started, already forgetting the vows he hadn't even written himself. "Uh the grass is cleaner.. no greener it's uh.. green" he mumbled. "My point is, you're great, let's celebrate our marriage with lots of meat" he continued, sure the crowd was confused. His brothers were snickering, his bride was shocked into silence, and their father was furious, but nevertheless everyone cheered.
"The rings" the officiant beckoned. Ace stepped forward. He was the ring bearer, but as he walked over he tripped, throwing the rings god knows where in his dramatic fall to the ground, after that a multitude of things happened. The public gasped and pushed forward to get a better look at the blunder of the royals. The officiant, the brides family and even some royal guards started looking around for the rings they'd never find. The king by now was embarrassed, and beyond angry.
Chaos was breaking out and Luffy stood confused amongst it all. The public started fighting amongst themselves, and his bride to be looked mortified. He didn't know if he was supposed to step forward and comfort her but there was no time instead he was pushed away, and pulled out a secret exit.
Luffy frowned and turned to see who was taking him away, was this some opportunistic ransom attack? However when he turned around he was met with the mischievous grins of his brothers.
They pushed a change of clothes into his hands, as they led him down a clearly planned escape route. "What's going on?" Luffy asked, looking between them.
"You're leaving" Ace spoke up with a grin. Which only added to Luffy's confusion. Leaving? "Wait- no, hang on" he stopped running in protest, but the brothers just grabbed him and continued pulling him along.
"After all your moping around, we snooped. We saw those letters.. all addressed to the same girl.. and honestly Luffy.. thank god you didn't deliver those, they're awful" Sabo teased, as they led him further and further away from his wedding.
Luffy frowned. "Hey, those were private". That earned him a couple of laughs from them. "Well don't underestimate the power of your older brothers. We tracked her down, heard everything from her, and lucky for you she's a good listener. We told her what an idiot you are and how your head was never in this wedding, still isn't" Ace explained. Luffy listened, wondering where this was all going. They had tracked y/n down.. so does that mean?
"She's willing to hear you out, so put the disguise on and get going already" Sabo encouraged. As the exit came into view they stopped, this is where they'd split off. Luffy didn't waste any time in discarding his blue royal suit, tailored for his wedding, in favour of a cheap pair of jeans and shirt. He wasn't sure he had ever worn jeans in his life.
"Thanks guys, I'll see you later" Luffy started, but Sabo reached out, he shook his head. "No.. Luffy regardless of what happens with her, you can't come back now.. this is it okay.. you leave this life behind". Luffy cocked his head, he didn't want to leave his brothers behind. He didn't want to never see them again.
"Don't get sappy come on, you've always hated this life, go live the one you want, completely free. Okay?" Ace urged, giving him a reassuring smile. Luffy's eyes watered and his lips trembled.
"But I love you guys.." Luffy protested, stepping forward. Ace and Sabo looked at each other and then him. Sabo pulled him into a hug, and Ace joined. "And we love you, but you need to do this" Sabo comforted. "Don't be a crybaby come on.. go before someone comes looking" Ace urged.
Luffy nodded and turned around, waving them goodbye. Before he left Ace pushed some paper and something else into his hands, the paper showing him exactly where she was waiting for him. "Be safe.. bungling kid brother.." Ace whispered after he left.
Luffy walked through the streets, quickly, towards the port. If that was where she was waiting he didn't want to keep her any longer.
The streets were mostly empty since most of the public turned up for the wedding, and in disguise he found himself a little more relaxed. As he made it to the port he noticed her sitting on a wall staring out at the sea. He ran over quicker than his legs have ever taken him before.
"Y/n, Y/n!" He called out desperately, and when he saw her turn to look at him, he felt his chest constrict. He couldn't mess it up this time.
"You really left.." she mumbled, clearly shocked that he so easily left that life behind, and ditched his own royal wedding. He nodded, and quickly grabbed her hands.
"I'm sorry I am. I'd make it up to you forever if you asked, I was really stupid and I've been really sad. I couldn't even eat much. I don't want to feel like that again. Or make you feel like that" Luffy rambled. He felt her squeeze his hands.
"I can't stay mad at someone who just left his entire life behind for me" she smiled, looking at him in the eyes. He looked back at the sincerity in her eyes, the way her hands grasped his, felt so perfect.
"Can I.." he leant forward a little looking for the permission he sought. Her eyes darted to his lips and nodded. Without a second longer passing he connected his lips with hers, in one of the most inexperienced, messy first kisses either of them had ever had, but neither of them minded.
Luffy never imagined that morning that by the evening he'd be on a boat, sailing away to start new life, with the person he came to fall for in those few short weeks. He didn't know if it would all work out, or if they'd end up heartbroken again, but as he watched her looking out at the sea, he fiddled with those lost rings in his pocket, he knew regardless that he made the right choice.
A/N: Okay so I got this comment;
and boy did it get the cogs turning. So I am doing something similar for my 100k special. I'm gonna do 10 chapters all different characters. However they're going to be my top 10 fave characters. In order from from 10 - 1. They'll all feature different story tropes! I'll (try to) release 1 a day for 10 days, I can't say when I'll get the first chapter out but this is what I've decided to do, so you get a little see into my one piece brain and you can judge my list of one piece loves!
