100K Special - 2. Trafalgar Law

A/n: Alright guys, in second place, is Law! The loml, and he has been for a very long time, but whilst he used to be my favourite for years, he isn't anymore by like a fraction (so sorry Law). So who will be at number 1?? Who knows!!

This story is one of my favourites, top 3 for sure, my main content I usually write, is in the one piece world. However when I'm consuming op content I almost always read au types. Hence the reason I included 3 au stories in these 10.

Also I don't know if you guys notice in my stories I almost never use 'y/n' and that's simply because I struggle to ever read that as my actual name, so I hate using it. However I like the suffix  (-ya) Law adds on the ends of names, so I included it a lot in this! Happy reading!! Also this still isn't the longest.

The library smelled of parchment and ink, its quiet only broken by the faint scratching of quills and the occasional sigh of a weary student. At the far end of the hall, Law sat waiting, his head tilted down as he flipped through the pages of a thick tome.

You approached hesitantly, gripping your bag tightly. You knew of him, everyone did. Trafalgar Law, the brilliant but distant prodigy who had aced every magical exam since the start of term. Pretty much the universities poster boy at this point, and was common knowledge that he preferred solitude, so why your professor had roped him into tutoring you was beyond understanding.

He didn't look up when you arrived, but his fingers drummed once against the desk. "You're late" he muttered. "Only by a few minutes" you replied defensively, sliding into the chair across from him.

He finally lifted his gaze, eyes sharp, assessing you. "A few minutes is still enough to waste my time". "Great start" you mumbled, dropping your bag onto the floor. He closed the book in front of him and leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. "Let's just get this over with. We're starting with the basics, plant growth spells. If you can't get this right, there's no point in moving forward".

You stiffened at the bluntness but said nothing. Law reached beside himself and pulled over a clay pot containing a single seed planted in soil. He set it down on the table between you. "This" he started, gesturing to it, "is about as elementary as magic gets. Conjure growth energy, direct it into the seed, and visualize the result. Simple".

You leaned forward, inspecting the pot as if it held all the answers. "Right. Easy enough". "Then show me" he replied, leaning his chin on his hand. You took a deep breath and gripped your wand, recalling the incantation you'd practiced so many times. Your voice wavered slightly as you spoke the words, guiding your magic toward the seed.

Nothing happened. Law raised an eyebrow. "Again". You gritted your teeth and repeated the spell, this time trying to visualize the seed sprouting into a vibrant green shoot. The soil remained still.

Law's expression didn't change, though his fingers tapped lightly on the table. "Try focusing more on the energy. You're too rigid". You closed your eyes and tried again, directing your focus inward this time. The words of the incantation felt mechanical, forced, and the seed responded with complete indifference.

By the fifth attempt, your voice cracked with frustration. "This is ridiculous! I'm doing everything right, and it's still not working!". Law shook his head. "You're overthinking it. Magic isn't just technique, it's instinct. Stop treating it like an equation".

"Easy for you to say" you snapped. "It probably works for you on the first try". He sat up straighter, his tone growing sharper. "If you'd stop whining and start listening, maybe we'd get somewhere". Your frustration boiled over, and in an impulsive move, you stood up and flicked your wrist at the pot, muttering some sort of curse, not really thinking anything would happen.
