Kara's mother was busy preparing hwachae when she heard the familiar sound of a key turning in the lock of the front door. She turned towards the door and saw Kara standing there, her eyes filled with tears. It was clear that something was troubling her.

"Honey, what's wrong?" She asked, concerned.

Kara chose not to reply and instead headed directly to her room, shutting the door with a loud thud.

Kara's mother, feeling unsure and puzzled, quickly made her way to the kitchen to pour a cup of the beverage she had prepared earlier before heading to her daughter's room.

She knocks on the door but hears no answer, so she pushes it open and finds Kara sprawled on her bed, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Kara, what's the matter?" her mother asks, her voice filled with worry.

"I'm fine." Kara tries.

Kara's mother puts the drink on the nightstand and sits down next to Kara. Gently stroking her hair, she asks, “You're not okay. Tell me what happened?"

She turns herself to face her mom, sighing as she replies, "Yeonjun."

Her mother tilts her head. "What about Yeonjun?"

Kara shrugs, "He's just been acting different."

These past few days....

Monday:

"Yeonjun, don't you think Huening Kai and Soobin make such an adorable couple?" She smiled as she showed a new photo Soobin took with Huening, oblivious to the way Yeonjun visibly stiffened at her words.

Yeonjun shifted subtly, creating a bit more distance between himself and Kara. Noticing the change, Kara asked, "What's wrong?" She inched closer to him.

"...Nothing." Yeonjun hesitantly said.

Kara's lips formed a slight frown as she couldn't shake the feeling that Yeonjun was hiding something from her. Despite his attempts to reassure her, she could still sense that he was not okay.

It left her feeling confused and slightly hurt that he wouldn't be honest with her. It was just so hard to understand why he felt the need to lie to her when she just wanted to be there for him.

"Jun, just tell me–"

"I need to go. Bye. " He cut her off as he left the house, leaving Kara alone in the living room. She couldn't help but be taken aback by the cold demeanor in his voice.

She couldn't help but wonder why he had been so rude. She had only been trying to lend a helping hand. Perhaps he was just under a lot of stress at work? Nonetheless, she decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and told herself that he would open up when he was ready.

Tuesday:

Kara
Hey! I'm sorry if I made you angry yesterday. I was only trying to help.

Yeonjun
It's fine.

Kara
Ok..... want to go get ice cream with me?

Yeonjun
I'm busy

Kara
Oh, okay.
I love you.

She placed her phone on the table, feeling a sense of unease as she realized Yeonjun had only read her message without responding or reciprocating the words of love she had sent him.

Maybe he just forgot, that's all. She thought.

Wednesday:

"Kara, could you please ask if Yeonjun would be interested in joining us for dinner tonight? I would love him to come help us for today's cooking." Her mother requested as she began unpacking the groceries.
