Kara’s sobs echoed through the house, and her mother rushed in from the kitchen, concern etched deep on her face. She reached Kara just as she collapsed onto the couch, her body shaking with the force of her tears.
“Kara, honey, what’s wrong? What happened?” her mom asked, voice soft but full of worry as she crouched next to her daughter.
Kara didn’t respond, just shook her head, her hands trembling as she wiped at her tear-streaked face. She couldn’t speak, the betrayal too raw, too overwhelming.
Her mom looked over Kara’s shoulder, her gaze narrowing on the four boys still standing in the living room, all tense and silent. The atmosphere was thick with tension, guilt, and anger hanging heavy in the air.
“What happened?” her mom repeated, her voice sharper this time, demanding answers as she stood, turning toward the boys.
Beomgyu opened his mouth, the anger from earlier still smoldering in his eyes. He was ready to unleash everything once more, but Yeonjun quickly stepped forward, his voice strained. “No, Beomgyu. Stop. We’ll tell her.”
Soobin was beside Yeonjun, his whole body trembling. He could barely stand under the weight of his guilt, but he knew they couldn’t hide anymore. There was no escaping this.
Soobin swallowed, his voice hoarse as he began. “This… wasn’t supposed to happen.” His eyes flickered to his mother, who was watching him with increasing confusion and anger.
“What wasn’t supposed to happen?” Kara’s mom asked, her voice growing colder.
Yeonjun took over, his voice tight. “We never meant to hurt anyone… especially Kara. But… "Soobin and I… we—”
“We’ve been feeling something for each other,” Soobin finished quietly, unable to meet his mother’s eyes. “It started a while ago, and we didn’t mean for it to go this far, but… we kissed. A few times and we had sex...”
The silence that followed their confession was suffocating. Kara’s mom’s face was a mixture of disbelief and fury, her eyes hardening as she processed what they had just admitted.
Kara’s breath hitched in her sobs, the weight of hearing it said aloud, breaking her down even further.
Yeonjun’s voice was pleading, desperate. “We know we messed up. We know we hurt Kara, and we’re so, so sorry. But we never wanted this. We never wanted things to get so out of control.”
Kara’s mom stood there for a long moment, her face turning red with barely-contained rage. She looked at Soobin, her own son, with a mixture of disgust and disappointment. “Soobin, how could you do this? To your sister?”
Soobin flinched, her words hitting him like a blow. “I didn’t mean to—”
“Didn’t mean to?” she snapped, her voice rising. “You didn’t mean to betray your own sister? The one who’s always been there for you? And you, Yeonjun.” She turned her fiery gaze on him, her tone sharp with anger. “I trusted you. I welcomed you into our home, let you be a part of this family, and this is what you do? You betrayed my daughter? You destroy my son?”
“Please, Mrs. Choi, I’m so sorry,” Yeonjun tried to say, but she cut him off.
“No, I don’t want to hear it. You’ve proven you can’t be trusted. And you,” she said, pointing at Soobin, her voice cold and sharp, “you’re no better. You let this happen. You lied to all of us. What kind of brother are you?”
Soobin could barely breathe, her words suffocating him. “Mom, please—”
“No! I don’t want to hear it,” she shouted, her voice trembling with fury. “You have no idea how much you’ve hurt this family.”
