Taehyun paced back and forth in the living room, his hands sweating as he mulled over what he was about to do. He hadn’t planned for this. He didn’t want to be the one to spill the truth, but keeping it a secret had become impossible.
The weight of it pressed down on him, making him restless, unable to focus. Beomgyu was his best friend, and yet, standing there in the center of their shared space, Taehyun felt like the room was closing in on him.
Beomgyu sat on the couch, scrolling through his phone, oblivious to the storm brewing in Taehyun’s mind. For a moment, Taehyun considered keeping his mouth shut. Maybe it wasn’t his place to get involved. Maybe it was better to let Yeonjun and Soobin handle it on their own.
But the guilt gnawed at him. Every time he saw Beomgyu laughing or talking about plans for the weekend, he felt a twinge of regret that his friend had no idea what was going on right under his nose.
Finally, Taehyun couldn’t take it anymore.
“Beomgyu,” Taehyun began, his voice shaky and uneven. His palms were sweating, and he could feel his heart pounding against his chest. The weight of what he was about to say made him nauseous, but he couldn’t hold it in any longer. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
Beomgyu barely glanced up from his phone, his fingers lazily scrolling through some group chat. “What is it?” he asked, his tone casual. “Mrs. Choi says we should go to her house this weekend. Gonna be lit, right?”
Taehyun’s stomach twisted painfully at the mention of Mrs. Choi. The casualness of the moment, of Beomgyu’s ignorance, made everything feel heavier. He hesitated, his mouth going dry, but he had to push through. “...It’s about Yeonjun… and Soobin.”
He set his phone down on the coffee table, his eyebrows drawing together in confusion as he finally gave Taehyun his full attention. “What about them? What’s up?”
Taehyun swallowed hard, the anxiety gnawing at him, but there was no turning back now. He inhaled deeply, trying to steady himself. “They’ve… been seeing each other.”
For a moment, Beomgyu just blinked, the words not quite registering. His expression was blank, as if trying to decipher some hidden meaning behind the statement. “Seeing each other? What do you mean?” His voice was steady, but there was a flicker of unease behind his eyes.
Taehyun felt his chest tighten, dread pooling in his stomach. “They’ve been… you know… together. Like, together-together behind Kara’s back.”
The words hung in the air, a thick, suffocating silence descending over the room. Beomgyu stared at Taehyun, his brow furrowing deeper as if he hadn’t heard him correctly. The seconds ticked by, each one dragging painfully slow. Then, Beomgyu laughed—a short, sharp sound of disbelief. “Ha, very funny,” he muttered, shaking his head. “Anyway, are you going to Mrs. Choi’s this weekend or not?”
“Beom,” Taehyun whispered, his voice quiet but firm. “I’m serious.”
Beomgyu let out a scoff, picking up his phone again, not even glancing at Taehyun. “Yeah, yeah, sureee. Anyways, just tell me if you’re coming or not so I can let Mrs. Choi knows.”
Taehyun’s chest felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible force. He exhaled sharply, frustration and worry bubbling to the surface. “Beom, I’m being honest with you,” he said, his voice tinged with urgency. “I caught them kissing… that day Soobin invited us over. They were kissing in the kitchen when they thought no one was looking.”
The shift in Beomgyu was immediate. His body stiffened, his fingers frozen mid-scroll. Slowly, he lowered his phone back onto the table, his movements deliberate, controlled. His face paled as he processed Taehyun’s words. “...They did what…?” His voice was barely above a whisper, disbelief lacing every word.
