I walked down the large hallway as breakfast had just finished.

I have a date with one of the selected in an hour so I headed to my bedroom to start dressing. Once I quickly showed and dressed, I started to brush my hair before I was interrupted by a knock on the door.

I opened the door, smiling when I found Dex. I went to hug him and he twirled me around.

"Dex, I didn't know you were visiting today!"

"I wanted to surprise you," he said, his dimples showing as he smiled.

"Come in. I don't have much time to talk because I have a date in less than an hour, but we can meet up afterwards."

"That's good with me. How has the selection been going?" He asked, as he plopped down on my bed.

"It's been great actually."

"That's good. Did you kiss any boys yet? I'm assuming not?" I lowered my head, continuing to brush it. "You haven't, right? It's only been a week."

"Well..."

"Fitz?"

"Yeah."

"I still don't like the fact that he's an Everglenian." He said, propping himself on his elbows.

"I don't see why it matters," I replied.

"Sophie, you know your parents will find out eventually, and it won't be very pretty." I sighed, drying my hair.

"I know, and I'm worried, we both are, but our feelings get so much in the way, we barely think about it." I explained.

"I think it was just a risky move in the first place. But it seems like you two care for each other a lot to risk getting caught." My cheeks turned a light red as I nodded.

"Yeah, and you haven't told anyone right?" He nodded his head.

"Yeah, I gave you my word." I smile, finishing up with my hair and going to sit down on my bed.

"But whether Fitz is an Everglenian or not, he's still an amazing guy. He's sweet, kind, loving, intelligent, and good looking. I know it's wrong, but it feels so right."

"With the way you're describing him, it sounds like you're in love with him." I looked at the ground. I don't know what love feels like. A crush is one thing but love? Maybe I do love him.

But how do I know?

"You love him right?"

"I don't know." He raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Think about it like this; if Fitz was about to die, and there was an option to risk yourself and save him, having to die in the process, would you?"

"Probably." His eyes widened and I rolled my eyes. "Dex it doesn't mean I love him, it's a question. I'd risk myself for you and my parents. There's no difference with Fitz."

"But there is. With your family members of course you would risk yourself. But Fitz is someone you really like. Now I could be wrong, but I'm probably right."

I stayed in silence. Did I love Fitz? I care about him a lot, and would even risk my life for him. But is it too early to tell him? It's only been a week since we've technically been dating. And how do I know if he loves me back?

"Maybe. But anyways, where do you want to meet up afterwards?"

"Doesn't really matter to me. The gardens, your room, or mine."

"We can meet in my room after."

"Sounds good, have fun on your date." Dex said, starting to stand up and walk to the door.
