July, 2054
Former President Alex Garner laid in his bed, dreaming. He had ceased to be president last year but had been appointed Secretary of State by his successor. He dreamed at first of his presidency but the dream shifted, he was viewing the continent of North America from Space, he could see the roots of a tree spreading all over the continent then a massive tree grew over where Washington DC.
A voice spoke in his dream "United In Diversity, In Union their is Strength. Alex Garner, you shall plant the seed that unities North America."
He woke with a start, he knew what he had to do. While dreams were just figments of the imagination, this felt so real.
The Secretary of State brushed his teeth and shaved. He was to look presentable to meet the president.
He met the president, Evelyn Parker at her desk in the Oval Office. He summonsed her and went on a walk.
"I suppose, you want to know why I called this meeting"
"I do, Alex" She said.
"I had an idea to improve the lives of not just our citizens but the citizens of all neighboring countries"
"I'm all ears, what is this idea?" She questioned.
"A north American union, similar to the EU with a common currency and military alliance. We can improve the lives of citizens in Latin America and beyond."
"This will be a difficult sell to the Republicans, they will not like this idea one bit, I fear they might try to leave the Union when they come to power" she responded.
"I will think of a way to convince them to support it"
