August, 2054

With the democrats leading in the polls for the midterms in the newly unicameral Congress and the more moderate republicans taking over in recent years with the ascension of Caroline Major, Congress minority leader as the de-facto leader of the Republican Party and Ryan Williams as Congress minority whip . Both were disciples of the former house speaker Charles Alexander. However there was still a large nationalistic constituency within the GOP, the maga leftovers. Alex feared that that would doom his proposal. He summoned a meeting of the president and the Opposition leaders.

He begun by addressing the crowd:

"A North American Union would be for the benefit of all. A common currency would reduce inflation in member countries by 25%, improving the lives of their citizens and limiting emigration. This is a major concern of your party. Also we could team up, to form a common security force to fight the gangs, limiting emigration by 50%. And would make the continent of North America 15% richer. That is why a North American Union would be the best thing for the continent and the nation!"

The room erupted in applause and Major, the Republican leader said "I'll try to convince my party, but it may cause a split in the party."

The Republican whip, shared Major's sentiment but said he would do it even if the party split.

Alex turns and says "I did a poll of 3,000 Americans, 67% were enthusiastic about it, a further and 25% were happy about the idea."

"Then it is settled" The president says. And the meeting is adjourned.
