Alex surveyed the damage from the helicopter, the city was completely submerged. It was terrifying, the power of Mother Nature.
The change happened overnight, all of a sudden Right wing news admitted Climate change was real and a pressing threat.
The disgusting New York Post released this headline "Dick Takes a massive leak on NOLA". This headline, Alex found repulsive and disrespectful.
Alex walked through the makeshift morgue where bodies were still being pulled from the floodwaters. He saw men, women, and Children all laid on bed's.
He passed the body of a little girl. She was lying so peacefully, it almost looked like she was asleep.
"She didn't drown" the doctor said.
"How did she die?"
"The winds blew down her house" The doctor said.
Tears flowed down Alex's eyes, every death was a life lost.
Even the most innocent were not spared from Nature's wrath.
He asked the engineer "when will it be rebuilt, the city of course"
"The Government has decided that it will be too expensive to rebuild the entire city in a flood prone area." The engineer said. And he added "The Area is probably uninhabitable anyway, I heard some chemicals got swept up in the waters during the storm"
Alex sighed, he had somewhat expected this when he saw the extent of the destruction.
He was to address the Union after this catastrophe.
His press secretary said "Mr. Chancellor, your on in 5".
He walked to the podium and began:
"My fellow North Americans, Many have heard of the terrible tempest that befell New Orleans and the rest of Louisiana. The extent of the destruction and death are unimaginable. It is if God has left us. But we shall strive together, to honor the fallen and pick up the pieces of our broken lives. So far, as of yet, there has been no confirmed survivors found inside the city. This is one of the deadliest calamities to befall North America, and the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded. Desperate times call for desperate measures and I am pleased to announce by Executive order I have crated the North American Weather Service that will take over duties from our National Weather Services.
Also we must not ignore the threat of our changing climate, that is why we must build flood barriers and preserve our wetlands!
We shall strive as one and ride this out together!"
