Chapter 10- When Johnny Comes Marching Home

March - April, 2055

The war begun on March 30th. The US nor any country in the world did not recognize the succession. The US would restore its territory.

The invasion of Alabama began promptly and Huntsville was soon captured. It was decided to isolate the state from supplies it might receive from the US' enemies. It was a good strategy and to do this they cut off the small coastline of Alabama by capturing Mobile and Gulf shores after not much of a fight.

Meanwhile the newly declared Kingdom of Alabama was facing trouble of its own. The black population in the so called kingdom was upset by the succession and rebelled to rejoin the US. Birmingham was the center of this revolt and the US swept in and occupied the city with no resistance.

Then Tuscaloosa was captured and soon Selma was as well.

The So called 'king' of Alabama was getting desperate he conscripted children to fight in the Battle of Montgomery. The battle lasted two weeks but ended on the 29th of April. The US recaptured the capital city of the state and executed the leader of the revolt the so called 'king' and former governor Tim Eforn.

The war was very popular and Support for the government and the union proposal reached an high. It later slightly dipped but not much. The whole country agreed with the government that Alabama had no right to leave.

Therefore when the war did ended the borders of the states were shifted. Florida gained the entire coastline of Alabama up to the border with Mississippi. While Alabama for the time being was put under military administration.

Throughout the war, "Union Dixie" the song from the civil war parodying the confederate song "Dixie", once again became a hit in America. A new cover of the song made by Taylor Swift hit #1 on the billboard hot 100. Alex was glad to see such an old song become popular again.
