Fool me once, fool me twice

Today was the day.. You were going to the house of the Hearth. Lucas decided to guide you again even though he was slightly afraid of the Knave.
The funny thing was that you probably weren't going to see the Knave today, instead you were going to see her children. As you were getting closer to the door, you noticed 3 figures standing in front of it.

"The lady should be here any moment! We all should be on our best behavior for the guest, okay? Do it for father"

You heard one of those three whisper. By their unique clothing, they should be the Knave's children.
"Excuse me.. you're the Knave's children, Am I correct?" You had a soft smile on your face as you tried to greet them. "oh you must be miss L/N! Father has told us about you!" He took his top hat off and bowed as a polite gesture.

"Yes, I'm Y/N L/N nice to meet you and this here is my bodyguard, Lucas" you introduced yourselves.
Lucas bowed down as well as a polite gesture.
"Nice meeting you two as well, I'm Lyney and these are my siblings Lynette and Freminet." Lyney introduced themselves. You find it slightly funny that their presence is much less intimidating as the Knave's. Here you thought that they were exactly like her. "I heard from father that you're interested in that little one that was assigned to us." Lyney said.
"I am quite interested indeed." You told the sibling which made them all nod in sync.

"Well let's not keep that baby alone any longer!"
Lyney opened the door to the hotel so that the others could follow. "let's hope that father won't make the baby drink up bottled flames Once it leaves." Freminet whispered into Lynette's ear.
She nodded at him as they walked towards the room where the baby was staying.

As Lyney opened the door slowly, he placed his index finger on his lips. Signaling you and the others to be quiet. Once he walked in the room, the others followed. The room was decorated with all kinds of things. Lyney took your hand and slowly guided you to the cradle. As you took a look at the child, you noticed something was odd.

This wasn't your daughter...

This was just some random child. At this point All hope was lost. When the house of the hearth doesn't have your daughter then you don't know who does.
As Lyney saw your smile fade, he knew exactly what was wrong. So he took your hand and dragged you out of the room, leaving the others behind.
"I'm assuming she's not your daughter, right?"
He asked you, once you were out of the room.
All you could do was nod.

Lyney felt pity for you as you nodded at him silently.
"You must be disappointed, why don't we eat together some cake to cheer you up." He smiled despite the situation you were in.

"A slice of cake would be nice yes." You smiled back at him. You couldn't believe that you were afraid of the knave's children at first. Now knowing them a bit more, you somehow felt comforted by their presences.

After talking with the others for a while, Lyney treated the others for cake as well, except Freminet.
He volunteered to stay with the baby while you were enjoying the pastries.

"So the baby wasn't yours?" Lucas whispered into your ear, he was quite confused because of your sad expression. He knew you loved pastries, seeing you sad while eating was a whole other thing.
You nodded as you took another bite of your cake.
"I'm quite sorry miss." Lynette said as she stirred her tea. "We didn't mean to disappoint you." Lyney put his hand on his chest as a symbol that he felt sorry for you. "it's okay, I shouldn't have put my expectations too high." You plastered another fake smile on your face as they looked at you with sorrow.

"Miss L/N, I can see right through you. We know that you're saddened by this whole situation but please don't try to lighten the mood with that fake smile of yours." Lynette said straight forwardly which made Lyney look at her with shock.
He nudged her shoulder, as a sign that she's not making you feel any better. "Miss L/N I must apologize for my sisters behavior. Please forgive her." Lyney smiled awkwardly.
