The Prince and the Monster

Sonic

As the ship pulled into the cove, I nervously glanced at the monster standing beside me.

After our attempt to escape, I was practically locked in my cabin the entire time. The only times I was let out was for dinner with Mephiles and even then I didn't want to do that.
Now here was was, standing at his side, with my wrists tied behind my back.

I only had one earring in now, and a nick in my ear where I had ripped off the other one.
I hoped they got to Shadow in time.

The cove smelled like a blacksmith shop or a mine. Many sad looking mobians in rags and chains marched throughout, carrying coal and supplies and treasure.
They loaded things onto the other ships in the cove or just brought them to separated coves. A huge manor sat at the top of an elevated ground, mocking the poor people down below.
Then there was a huge furnace-like structure, flames and smoke spewing from a hole in the top.

I felt my heart ache as I saw all the tortured and distressed faces of the people Mephiles had enslaved.

"Welcome to my cove, Little Prince. You're above all these peasants and can demand anything you want from them." He chuckled, placing a hand on my shoulder.

I grimaced, but nodded reluctantly.

He lead me down the ship's ramp and through the lines of enslaved mobians.

I looked at each of them with remorse.
Some looked at me with pleading eyes, begging for freedom or mercy.

Then we got up to the manor and I was brought inside.

"You shall be staying here. You can leave the manor but you're not allowed to leave the cove." He said, clapping his hands.

A bleary eyed servant came running and handed him a dagger.
He cut the ropes off my wrists and I rubbed the sore spots from them.

"Show him to his room." He said to the servant.
She nodded and motioned for me to follow her. She led me upstairs to the fourth floor, and into a luxurious room. It had it's own bathroom even.

This was sick.
I was being treated like royalty as a prisoner while hundreds of people outside were being tortured.

I stared at the room for a while and sat down in an armchair.
She was about to leave but then I spoke.
"Wait." I said.

She looked at me with confusion and I moved to the bathroom.
I grabbed a rag and put cold water on it.
I moved over to her and held the rag.
I pressed it against her face, which was dirty and bruised.

"I'm so sorry." I whispered, as the dirt started to wipe off her face.

She looked at me slightly shocked, but then tears started to roll from her eyes and she sobbed.

I let her hug me and cry.
She cried for a good while then wiped her tears and stared at me.
"Thank you." She whispered.

"If they ever hurt you just come to me, okay?" I murmured.

She nodded then left.

I sat down once more and then went to staring back at the room. Observing every object.

And the silence was so loud.

~day 2~

I stood at the window.

It was the second day I was trapped here, and I was slowly hating it more and more.
I had learned the servant girl's name was Elodie, and she had been taken from her parents in a raid on her town.

I let her stay in my room as an excuse to get away from Mephiles and his captains.

But now I felt the urge to search for someone.
