Misaki's Pov

Awakened by the sound of bodies hitting the floor, I opened my eyes to find myself lying in bed, not seated in the chair, with Sasuke holding me. A slight blush crept over my cheeks before I sat up and slid out of bed. Despite my curiosity to peek at the commotion, I refrained. Surveying the nearly empty room for any potential weapon, my gaze landed on a small metal canister near the bathroom door. Swiftly, I picked it up, concealed it under my shirt, and secured it beneath the hem of my tights.

As the door swung open, Kabuto appeared, a fleeting look of surprise crossing his face upon seeing me, confirming my suspicions about him on the spot. "I wasn't expecting your presence here as well, Fujioka-san..." he remarked, advancing slowly towards Sasuke and me. I rested my hand on my hip, ready. "It seems someone must keep a vigilant eye around here. Although your presence here, instead of Orochimaru's, was unforeseen, I had surmised a connection between you two," I declared. He smirked, unsheathing his kunai. It was clear to me that he intended to target Sasuke, compensating for the sound ninja's failure during the second exam.

He rushed at me, and just as he was about to attack, a string snatched his weapon away. He halted and spun around. Glancing over, I saw three lifeless Anbu at the door and Kakashi in the entrance. "As always, your timing is impeccable, Kakashi-sensei, though I can handle this myself," I said, frowning and positioning my hands defensively. Kakashi gave a nod, confirming with a glance that Sasuke and I were fine, then turned to interrogate Kabuto. After a brief exchange, Kabuto claimed we couldn't prove his ties to Orochimaru. Kabuto then launched into a fight with Kakashi, while I held back, wary of any tricks he might have planned against Sasuke.

Kakashi swiftly restrained Kabuto but was soon attacked by one of the deceased Anbu, forcing him to retreat. The Anbu then turned his attention to me, attempting to seize me. I quickly retrieved the canister I had concealed and struck him in the chest, making him stagger backward. He then dashed towards the bed where Sasuke lay, only for the Anbu to crash through the window and leap out. Kakashi approached the window, peered down, then sighed as he surveyed the disarray in the room.

I looked at Kakashi, then briefly at Sasuke. After a moment, Kakashi shared the outcomes of Sakura and Naruto's battles. I felt proud of them both, and even though Sakura's battle was a draw, it showed her determination. "You can go home and rest now; I'll watch over Sasuke. I'll also find out who you're facing in the final Chunin Exam and let you know soon," Kakashi said. I nodded hesitantly and cast one last glance at Sasuke before gathering my belongings and exiting the room.

Exiting the hospital, I headed to my apartment. En route, thoughts of my encounter with Orochimaru and Kabuto preoccupied my mind. The details of my battle with Orochimaru remained unclear, yet I recalled unlocking something significant during the fight, the specifics of which eluded me. Minutes later, I arrived at my apartment complex and ascended the stairs, key in hand from my jacket pocket. A man stood by my door; his identity became clear as he turned at the sound of my approach—it was my father. I stood rooted to the spot, unprepared for this early reunion, and the absence of Kanna's vigilant presence was equally surprising.

"Misaki... I wanted to check on you after the battle... now that I see you're alright, I'll take my leave," my father said quickly. I frowned as he offered a sad smile and began to walk away. "Wait," I called out, reaching to grasp his yukata sleeve. He stopped and turned to face me, his ocean blue eyes, once vibrant, now appeared dimmer, his complexion was very pale, and the dark circles under his eyes were pronounced. "You're like a cloud drifting freely in the open sky, unbound by the gaze from below or the rush of the wind," I told him. His brows knitted together as he responded, "I am like a lone tree in a tranquil forest; unseen, yet the sun blesses me with a moment of peace." I nodded, unlocked my apartment door, and motioned for him to come inside.

He stepped inside. After I understood his metaphor, I glanced around outside before closing the door behind me. "You can relax and drop the 'just checking in' act. What do you want to discuss with me, Father?" I asked, placing my dirty clothes from the exam into the laundry basket in the hallway. He sighed and took a seat at the kitchen table while I put my hand on my hip. "I'm in the process of divorcing Kanna, and I plan to leave this village to return to our hometown. I was wondering if you'd like to come with me, considering you didn't heed my advice to leave this place sooner rather than later," he said, his expression serious but his tone soft, as if he was hesitant to express his thoughts.

"I clearly remember your words, father, but Lord Third found me, and now I'm accountable to Team Seven. With Orochimaru revealing himself, it's too risky to leave while he's still at large," I said. Father swept his gray-blue hair from his face and replied, "I'm not suggesting you leave immediately. I still have to deal with the divorce proceedings, which will take longer because of the child she insisted on having. Moreover, I need time to recover the strength I've lost over the past 12 years." I frowned, pondering if his decision was influenced by the battle I had earlier today. "I understand your thoughts, and no, it's not solely because of today's events, though they did serve as a wake-up call."

I nodded and took a seat at the table, facing him. Exhaustion weighed on me from the past few days; I had managed only eight hours of sleep over four days. Feeling his gaze, I glanced up. "I would like to assist you during this training period before the final exam. Your opponent will be Dosu Kinuta, a shinobi from the Hidden Sound Village," he said. I gave a brief nod, recalling the sound ninja from the Forest of Death. "I will train you in the Fujioka arts and also help you unlock the familiar within you." I furrowed my brows and crossed my legs. "What familiar? And why am I only hearing about this now?"

"So you don't remember, huh? Don't worry, I'll explain it later. But first things first, you should get some sleep; you won't be able to function like this," he said, standing up to leave. I sighed in agreement and turned to head to my room. "You should stay here for the night, Father. I have a guest bedroom you can use unless you need to play stay-at-home dad," I offered. He thanked me, saying he didn't need to go back at the moment. I nodded and went off to rest, feeling somewhat happy to have spent time with my father.
