"Do you still have that bat?"
3RD POV:
The next day, I woke up wide awake, my head still swimming with thoughts of Steve's confession. Despite my efforts, I hadn't slept properly, and found myself locked away in my room, lost in my own thoughts. My parents called and asked me to come to Will's house, but I told them I wanted to be alone for the time being. They sounded worried, but my mind was too consumed by Steve to notice.
As the evening approached, the doorbell rang, snapping me out of my thoughts. I went downstairs and opened the door to find Dustin standing there, hands on his hips, a glare etched on his face.
"I've been trying to contact you for the past two hours," he said, exasperated.
"What? I've been in the house all day. I didn't hear anything," I replied, confused. Then I realized I have been hearing music aloud that I didn't even hear telephone ring.
"You've been in the house all day and didn't answer my calls, and here we have a code red emergency," Dustin explained, his tone urgent.
"What do you want, Dustin? My sister isn't home," I said trying to dismiss him.
"Where did she go?" he asked me.
"To Will's," I answered, and he nodded.
"Okay, you come with me," he said, grabbing my hand.
"Where?" I asked, stopping in my tracks.
"As I said, we have a code red emergency," Dustin insisted, and I furrowed my brows, feeling increasingly puzzled.
"Dustin, elaborate," I urged.
"I will, on the way," he replied, starting to drag me along with him.
"Okay, okay, wait. I'll grab my keys," I said, hurrying inside to slip on my shoes. Once ready, I returned to Dustin's side.
"Okay, let's go," I said as we walked towards my car. However, our progress halted as we noticed a familiar maroon BMW parking infront of my house. Dustin and I exchanged a glance before Steve emerged from the driver's seat, holding a bunch of red roses and muttering something under his breath, barely audible from our distance.
"Steve!" Dustin shouted as we rushed over to him. "Are those for y/n?"
"Yes," Steve replied, glancing at me as Dustin snatched the flowers out of his hands.
"Good."
"Hey, what the hell?" Steve exclaimed and turned towards me as I shrug my shoulder still confused my Dustin urge.
"You're coming with us so you can give them to her later," Dustin said, determination in his voice.
"Do you still have that bat?" Dustin asked.
"Bat?" Steve asked, puzzled. "What bat?"
"The one with the nails," Dustin clarified, waving the flowers in the air.
"Now?"
"Now!" Dustin shouted, causing both Steve and me to exchange confused glances.
"Which car are we driving?" Dustin asked as we exchanged another glance.
"Let's go in Steve's car," I said, walking over to his car with Dustin following suit.
"Did something happen between you two?" Dustin asked me as I opened the passenger seat.
"No, nothing happened," I replied, sliding into the seat.
"If you say so," Dustin said, settling in behind us as Steve got into the driver's seat.
"And also, Steve?" Dustin called out as Steve started the car.
"Did anything happen to your telephone?" Dustin asked, clearly frustrated. He must have been trying to reach Arlo, too.
"No, why?" Steve asked, genuinely confused.
"I've been trying for two hours, and also, where is your brother?"
"I don't know," Steve said.
"He's at Will's too," I chimed in.
"What? He's there too? How do you know?" Dustin questioned, sounding incredulous.
"He came for Emma, and I said she went to Will's. He took his bike and drove away," I explained as Dustin scoffed.
"Okay, enough with your questions. Now it's our turn to ask questions. What happened, and what's the code red emergency?" I demanded as Dustin fell silent.
