"Someone's feeling a little possessive, huh?"

Y/N POV:

The next morning, we found ourselves outside a forest, unloading three giant buckets of raw meat from Steve's trunk along with yellow rubber gloves and my handgun from my mom. Steve also brought his nail bat.

"Well, well, well, look who it is," Dustin suddenly said, probably someone to walkie talkie.

As Dustin began explaining about Dart growing again and escaping, my mind wandered, consumed by thoughts of my family and the Byers.

Suddenly, a hand shook me, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Hey, you okay?" Steve asked, his concern evident.

"Yeah, just thinking about where they went," I replied, running a hand through my hair. The Byers' house was empty this morning, and I couldn't shake the worry.

"Don't worry, they must be safe. Maybe, like you said, Will had another episode and they took him to the hospital," Steve reassured me, kissing my forehead gently as I smiled.

"Alright, let's go," Steve said to me and Dustin, determination in his voice.

"Just be there, stat. Over and out," Dustin said, and we set off into the forest.

As we were throwing meat on the train tracks, my hand started to ache from the weight of the heavy bucket.

"Alright," Steve began. "So let me get this straight. You kept something you knew was probably dangerous just to impress a girl who... who you just met?"

"Alright," Dustin responded. "That's grossly oversimplifying things."

"I mean, why would a girl like some nasty slug anyways?" Steve questioned, tossing another piece of meat to the ground.

"An interdimensional slug? Because it's awesome," Dustin replied.

"Well," Steve continued. "Even if she thought it was cool, which she didn't, I... I just... I don't know. I feel like you're trying way too hard."

"Well not everyone can have your perfect hair, alright," Dustin mumbled, his gaze trailing to the ground.

"It's not about the hair, man," Steve sighed, pointing to his head. "Isn't it, y/n?" Steve turned to me, Dustin also turning to me, awaiting my answer.

"Well, ummm..." I hesitated as Steve and Dustin both raised their eyebrows, waiting for my answer. "It's your hair, Steve," I finally said, breaking the silence.

"What? You know what, Y/N, we two will have this conversation later," Steve said, and I smiled and nodded.

"Okay, so, Dustin, the key to a girl is just... acting like you don't care," Steve advised, and my smile faltered at his advice. I rolled my eyes, scoffing at Steve's questionable guidance, making a mental note to set Dustin straight later.
