"He's going to eat a lot more than just cats"

Y/N POV:

"You're positive that was Dart?" Lucas asked as we walked down the train tracks, my hand still in Steve's, both of us in shock over what had just happened.

"Yes," Dustin confirmed from beside me, with Max and Lucas trailing behind. "He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt."

"He was tiny two days ago," Max pointed out.

"Well," Dustin started explaining, "He's molted three times already."

"Malted?" Steve mumbled.

"Molted," I corrected. "Shed his skin to make room for more growth, like hornworms."

"Geez, Steve, have some general knowledge," I teased him.

"What-? Hey, I know what it means," he protested, but I scoffed.

"Yeah, like I believe you," I smiled, turning away.

"When's he gonna molt again?" Max asked, narrowing her eyebrows at Dustin.

"It's gotta be soon," Dustin shrugged. "When he does, he'll be fully grown or close to it. So will his friends."

"Yeah, and he's going to eat a lot more than just cats," Steve scoffed.

"Wait," Lucas said, grabbing Dustin's shoulder, causing us all to stop and turn towards them. "A cat. Dart ate a cat?"

"No, what?" Dustin denied, his voice betraying his lie. "No."

"What do you mean? He ate Mews," Steve interjected, and I shot him a disapproving look.

"Mews?" Max asked. "Who's Mews?"

"It's Dustin's cat," Steve explained with a shrug.

"I think it's best if you stop, Steve," I interjected, but he just shrugged.

"I knew it!" Lucas exclaimed, slapping Dustin's shoulder. "You kept him!"

"No! No. No, I... No, I..." Dustin denied, but Lucas wasn't buying it.

"He missed me," Dustin blurted out. "He wanted to come home."

"Bullshit," Lucas snapped, clearly unconvinced.

"I didn't know he was a Demogorgon, okay?"

"Oh, so now you admit it?"

"Alright, kids, let's end this pointless argument. We've got more important things to focus on, like making sure nobody becomes dinner for Dart and his friends," I declared firmly.

"Yeah," Max nodded, "Who cares. We have to go."

"I care!" Lucas cried, frustration evident in his voice as I sighed.
