"Oh really? How many girls have you attracted?"

Y/N POV:

Steve had been flicking his lighter for over an hour now, as Lucas sat on the roof, waiting for Dart, while Dustin walked around and I sat next to Steve.

"So," Max piped up. "You guys really fought one of these things before?"

Steve and I nodded as he flicked his lighter once more.

"And you're totally, 100% sure it's not a bear?"

"Shit, don't be an idiot, okay?" Dustin retorted. "It's not a bear. Why are you even here if you don't believe us?"

Max looked at him, arms crossed over her chest and her eyebrows raised.

"Sheesh," she sighed, climbing up the ladder. "Someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?"

Dustin stared at her as she walked up the stairs.

"That's good," Steve smirked. "Just show her you don't care."

"I don't," Dustin piped up with his hands stuffed in his front pockets. I sighed and lightly hit Steve on the chest.

"You do realize she's going to distance herself if you keep being rude to her," I said to him.

"It's best to attract the girls, okay?" Steve replied.

"Oh really? How many girls have you attracted?" I teased, causing Steve to fluster.

"Well, I attracted you," Steve smirked, and I playfully glared at him. Before I could respond, Dustin interrupted.

"Oh god, please stop flirting," Dustin pleaded as he started to climb the ladder.

"Hey, we're not flirting," I said, but Dustin continued up the ladder.

"Yeah, and I'm 5 years old," he joked.

"Geez, can you believe I used to babysit these little jerks?" I remarked as Steve laughed and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I turned to him, curious.

"What?" I asked as he tucked my hair behind my ear.

"You're beautiful," Steve said, and I suddenly felt shy and blushed. He looked down at my lips, leaned in just as it was about to touch.

A loud screech interrupted us, and we both pulled away, turning towards the window as Dustin came down and stood beside me.

"You see him?" Dustin asked.

"No," Steve and I replied.

"Lucas," Dustin called out. "What's going on?"

"Hold on!" Lucas shouted to us. "I've got eyes! Ten o'clock! Ten o'clock!"
