noun ~ a person's point of view or attitude to life
NOVA
'I'm okay.'
I jolted upright in the bed, my heart pounding in my ears. A fine sheen of sweat covered my body and the sheets clung to me like a second skin. Phoenix appeared, standing in the bedroom's doorway.
Looking around, I blinked through the darkness. My nostrils flared as I quickly made sense of my surroundings, terrified that I was still in those woods.
I wasn't.
We were still on the plane.
Phoenix's brows knitted together, concerned. "Nova?"
I exhaled, wiping the hair away from my face. "I'm fine."
He grumbled, moving to sit beside me on the bed. "You were in a vision. I figured I'd leave you to it... You.... were showing me in real time."
My body tensed for all the more reasons. "I did?"
"It stopped a few minutes ago. I assumed you fell back asleep." He nodded, holding my hands. "I am now assuming it did not."
I shook my head, swallowing. "It was... I've never... Visions in dreams."
His lips quirked. "What about them?"
"They're always odd." I exhaled loudly, my chest deflating. "Sometimes they're memories, like this one was. But then... it changed."
"Changed?" He cocked his head.
I nodded. "I saw Charlie and Calida after they killed her father. They were..."
"At the camp." He nodded. "I saw that too."
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I tried to force back the horrid memory of that place. The cold, biting metal cages, the dark laughter and taunts from the women there. I was only there for a couple of days and I couldn't shake the weight of fear from my mind. People like Rose...and Calida...
My heart ached for them.
"That's when you locked me out." Phoenix continued. "I thought you fell back asleep. I know it can be... risky sometimes waking you."
"Let me guess, that was from a run-down from Gaia?" I mused.
He laughed. "She tells me a few things, that witch."
"Like where to find Selma?"
"You're funny." He teased, kissing my nose. "Now, what happened after that part that made you wake up so sharply?"
I paused, trying to understand. "I was in the woods, in the middle of the night, just wandering around. But then my feet took me somewhere, and the scent of wolves grew the longer I walked. But then... I saw Charlie."
"What did he look like?"
"Worn." I muttered. "Everything was dark, and it was as though he was waiting for me. His wolf was restless, kicking and whining in his sleep. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I went to him. I ran my hand through his fur and he seemed to calm. I told him things would be fine, that he'd be fine. He rested his head on my lap and made like a... crying sound."
"You think he projected?"
I shrugged. "That or I was seeking him after the horrible vision. But there was nothing else, just Charlie in a pitch-black forest. And then after I calmed him, I heard him."
"Heard him?" Phoenix blinked. "In real time?"
"Yes." I breathed. "He told me he was okay."
"That was it?"
