NOVA
After a wonderful, calm morning with Phoenix, he left before lunch to make some phone calls.
Whenever he used that as an excuse, it meant he was going to go deep-diving into the Pollux situation. I probably wouldn't see him until the sunsets.
Christmas day was tomorrow, but tonight the pack was hunting. It was well-needed. Since my unnerving vision a few weeks ago where I ran through the woods, we had pulled back on the free-range running through the further pack lands. Only patrol wolves were allowed near.
Call it paranoid, call it crazy, but I felt content knowing my pack was nowhere near what was out there. Kasper hasn't come back since the last time he corrupted our border, and I wondered why he suddenly stopped.
I saw him in my vision; I felt him in the air... And then...
He was gone.
Why tease us? Why tempt me? To sense him? Did he want me to have that vision? If so, how did he know how my gift works? Why lead me to him and not do anything about it? He truly was a ghost.
I itched the side of my stomach as another cramp rolled by. My skin was tight and irritated, more so than with the twins, and it was frustrating me.
I knew these feelings, and I knew the days were getting shorter. I thought I'd have more time; thought that I'd at least make it to the new year. But my days were running out. So far, the cramps were mild and random, and I put them down as hicks for now.
Yes, I know. I shouldn't.
I could practically hear Charlie telling me otherwise.
My lips tipped into a frown, the sudden eruption of emotion hitting me like a cloud.
I think I have cried enough the past few days to fill an entire bath. My emotions were haywire, and combined with the stressful need to nest, I found myself exhausted. If I wasn't busy, I was napping.
Thankfully, Phoenix refused to enter his office today and tomorrow. My high-ranking male was nothing but a father, and I couldn't wait for it.
"You okay, Nova?"
I blinked, looking up at Rose. "Yeah, just a lot of thoughts."
"I thought you were going to cry, but then you just... smiled. It was creepy, really."
I laughed softly; the movement jostling the baby inside. "Gee, thanks."
Those who could not hunt were all in the pack house. Molly, Rose, Kate and I were in the garden room with the babies. Rose held baby Ella and Kate held baby Remi. Reya and the twins were on the floor, all simply playing with some wooden building blocks. Of course, Freddy had to taste all of them before he would be satisfied. I swear, he was getting more teeth.
Just how many teeth can a baby get in one year?
The mind link was open, and I could feel Phoenix's wolf as he led the pack through their hunt. They had already found a herd of deer and were actively chasing it. I could sense his adrenaline, the entire pack excitedly yapping through the pack bonds.
"I think we need another boy," Molly suddenly spoke.
I cocked my head, staring at the only boy in the room. "Yeah, another boy would be nice."
"I can't believe you won't tell us," Molly groaned, kicking Kate's calf.
Kate was the only one who knew; being our doctor. She grinned at Molly, shrugging nonchalantly at our friend's annoyance.
