"Where are you going?"

I barely glanced at Sean, rolling my eyes as I hurried away from Gaia's back garden.

"I'm going home."

"What! We just got here?" Sean grunted, jogging to keep up with me.

I glanced at him, amused. "Sure did! But I have my answers."

He mumbled a curse, confusion blanketing his face. I took sympathy and slowed my pace back down to a walk.

"She wrote something in the mud."

"Looked like shit to me." He grunted.

"Sean!" I laughed. "I know what the word meant."

"Why couldn't she just tell you the word?" He wondered.

"Witches don't like to interfere with fate. Her telling me would've been too much of a giveaway." I shook my head, staring down at my feet. "Mindlessly writing Latin words in the mud gives so many more options. The chance I would even look at it and understand what it meant was a risk enough."

"This is why most of us stay away from witches." He mumbled. "They're confusing."

"Not really." I laughed. "You have to take things they say as...ellipsis."

Sean frowned at me. "Now you're speaking in riddles."

I laughed as we continued our walk back to the mainland. I was heading home, and Sean tagged along despite the change of direction.

"How's things going, anyway?" I asked softly.

His eyes dropped from the treetops, eyebrows quirking. "Huh? Me?"

"No, the bunny in the bush." I rolled my eyes.

He snorted a laugh, nudging me with his elbow. "Things are good."

"You and Rose..." I suggested.

"Still a one-sided mark." He muttered.

"How's that going?" I genuinely wondered. "Must be hard not wanting to bite her when you... you know."

He smiled softly at me, nodding. "It can get difficult. Many times I've had to hold back from shifting."

My eyes widened. "Wow. That bad?"

"It's so strong." He sighed. "Our relationship has come on so far this year, I don't want to ruin it. But it's getting harder every time, every damn day."

"Have you spoken to her about it?"

He shrugged. "As much as you do without wanting to bring tension."

I pursed my lips, gazing ahead at the trail leading towards my home. "You know when we had the girl's day in the garden room?"

"We?" He mused.

Scoffing, I nudged him. "Don't take it so specifically."

"Ellipsis, right?" He snorted.

"Sean!" I tutted. "I'm trying to speak about your mate here."

He grinned; his light eyes are bright with amusement. "What about her?"

I hesitated, coming to a stop when a sudden realisation washed over me. Sean took a further two steps before stopping and turning back to me. He faced me with a confused head tilt, his hands deep in his pockets. At my gobsmacked, and rather shocked expression, he scoured the area.
