"Nova!"

I ignored the gasps of surprise. My eyes zoned in on Sean. He stood pridefully in his doorway, his clothes carefully picked to showcase his newest complete scar.

"Like I said, what the fuck is that?" I squeaked.

Sean rolled his eyes. "Last I checked, you were an adult, Nova. You know what mates do."

"I was with you two hours ago!" I shrieked.

He shrugged, grinning lazily. "You're telling me. It was just as much a surprise to me as it is to you."

"So, it's real?" I squeaked.

"Nova, use your senses, my love."

I narrowed my eyes at my mate's tone, but then I realise what he was saying. My nostrils flared, and I didn't even need to inhale much before I was screaming and throwing myself at Sean. Beneath the scent of contentment and dinner inside, there was that wonderful, combined scent I was dreaming of. No more waiting!

For them, of course.

Not me.

Wait, did Phoenix smell it before we even got here? Is that why he told me...

"I can't believe it!"

Sean laughed as he hugged me back, rubbing his hand across my shoulders. From my tip-toed vision over his shoulder, I saw Rose standing hesitantly near their sofa. My joy exploded, and I was quick to ditch Sean to take hold of Rose and eye her new mark. She squeaked in surprise as I wrapped myself around her, pulling her flush to me.

"You did it!" I squealed. "You did it! You did it!"

"Nova!" she gasped. "You're... crushing.... I... air?"

"Oh!"

I released her, but kept my hands locked around her wrists. "Sorry."

"It's okay." She exhaled. "Sean said you'd go two ways."

"He did?" I cocked my head.

"He said you'd be angry that we did it without telling you, or an emotional wreck."

"Huh." I hummed. "I guess he's wrong on both parts!"

She laughed as I hugged her again.

I felt Phoenix's hand on my shoulders as he approached. Rose giggled between my arms, trapped in my hug.

"Nova, you have to let Rose go."

"I don't want to."

"Nova..." He sighed.

"But Rose..." I whined. "They did it!"

"I know. You know. I think Rose knows."

"This is big." I stated, pulling away.

"It is." Phoenix mused.

"Sean marked her."

"I know."

"She's our beta female."

Rose's eyes seemed to widen, as if just realising this. "I am?"

"Temporarily?" I tried to diffuse the fear. "But then again, gamma..."

She swallowed, glancing at Sean. I watched the clogs turn in her mind before she nodded, and her tense shoulders relaxed. I could see the bond working in real time, and I knew my grin would never leave my face all night.
