POLLUX

From one town to the next, the weeks that followed blurred as one. I spent most of my time in a haze, adventuring everywhere I could. I avoided wolf land like the plague, sticking to the human routes. The amount of vehicles decreased as I travelled, and soon I found myself getting closer to nowhere.

Nowhere.

A suitable place for my life.

I felt... without purpose. Without ending. That any meaning in the world wouldn't apply to me because I had nothing to give.

The wandering haze turned to one full of drunken stumbles and the past three days I haven't been sober once. With a buzz always in my mind, time seemed to quicken and people seemed less... annoying. My every thought quietened, lessening the ache in my chest and filling that emptiness with something warm.

But now I was in the middle of nowhere, and the emptiness grew with every passing mile.

Coming near another town, I decided to stop at this one for something to eat. With thoughts unattached to my mind, I found a store suitable for what I wanted. I chose perishable foods, unbothered that they may taste foul tomorrow.

I was hungry.

The person behind the till eyed me with a frown, which deepened when I pointed to a bottle of alcohol behind him. He eyed me before scanning it through, and I paid with a soft sigh, leaving the hostile human's shop.

So judgemental.

I found a quiet park to sit down in, grateful for the lack of sun today. Thankfully, the end of summer was approaching, and I'd no longer suffer the horrid heat. Eating with a hazy mind, I didn't touch the alcohol just yet; I didn't need any human police on my back.

Oh, October, I adore you. Not too hot, not cold enough for a coat... Autumn was the best and I could practically feel it in my bones.

One more month for blissful golden pathways littered with the fallen leaves of summer. The fast approach of winter kept you on your toes, but the excitement of the holidays made it want to pass faster.

One more month until darker evenings, staying warm inside a house as you watch the rain...

Home.

Fuck, I didn't have one.

A phone started ringing, and I looked around for the culprit before realising it was mine.

I groaned, pulling the ringing device from my bag. My eyebrows furrowed as I read the name along the top of the screen, wondering why she was calling me.

Had it been a week already?

Sighing, I slid my phone across the screen, hoping she didn't recognise my mood change. I was sober enough, she wouldn't tell.

"Nova..." I breathed.

"Pollux!" her cheerful voice echoed through the speaker. "Hey!"

"Is it Sunday already?" I murmured.

"Sure is." She giggled. "You'd know that if you checked your phone."

I rolled my eyes, chewing on my sandwich. "I have to preserve battery somehow."

"I know, I know." She hummed. "How are things going? Anywhere exciting?"

I hesitated, unsure on where I was. It was a human town, but I neglected to look at the sign. I gave her a false name, guessing where I was. I knew I was near the north midlands, away from the coast, so I just assumed.
