A Light Supper
It took a little while for Mila and Lillith to slightly recover before they drove back to Elliott’s house, meeting Luther, Vanya and Diego there. Diego showed them all a letter.
‘FROM THE OFFICE OF
SIR REGINALD HARGREEVES
To my Pursuers:
I, Reginald Hargreeves, request the pleasure of your company for a light supper on the 20th of November, 1963, at half past seven o’clock.
1624 Magnolia Street, Dallas, Texas’
Luther, with his mouth full, read it and spoke, “Diego, this is a setup.”
“It’s a murder plot,” Lillith told them, very much against the idea of going.
“Oh people are trying to find me, let's get all of them in a room and kill them,” Mila added. “Maybe he’ll blow us up, or stab us, or shoot us.”
Diego shrugged his shoulders, “Maybe. But we should go anyway.”
“Says the guy who’s already been stabbed once this week,” Luther pointed out.
Mila shrugged, “Ah, wouldn't it hurt to stab him again, you need a test subject for that?”
Diego ignored what the blonde girl said, “Oh, don't worry, me and him are gonna have words.”
“Would you tell him that he’s nuts,” Luther asked Lillith knowing Diego would probably listen to her.
“Diego, this is mad,” she told him.
“Says the woman who’s in a cult with him,” Diego retorted.
Lillith sighed, “Ah, got me there.”
“I think we should go,” Vanya added into the conversation.
“See?” Diego turned to Luther.
Luther looked up in betrayal, “Vanya, of all people, you should hate Dad the most.”
“Come on, can he really be that bad?” She asked, not really understanding why they were all being so dramatic about one man.
“Yes,” Lillith and Mila said simultaneously before high fiving.
Luther hummed, “Okay, well, let’s see. He isolated you from the rest of the family.”
“Kept you hopped up on pills,” Diego added.
“And he brainwashed you into thinking you had no powers,” Luther finished.
“Jesus, this guy. . .” Vanya sighed, looking down at the floor. “I mean, come on, I have to meet him.”
“What?” Lillith asked in shock, staring at her sister. “No, that was to scare you from seeing him.”
Luther pointed in an accusatory manner at Diego, “You already know how this is gonna go. Dad is gonna play his little mind games on us, get into our heads and he’s gonna turn us all against each other. You watch.”
Mila laughed, “I’ll kill him before he does that, slow and steady wins the race so I was thinking slow slow torture?”
“Luther we’re not twelve anymore,” Diego told him. “All right? We’re grown-ass men. . .” he turned to Vanya and Lillith, “and women. Hey, hey. We can handle him. Wanna know what’s different this time?”
“What’s that?” Luther asked him.
“You got me.” Lillith and Mila placed their hand over each other’s mouths to stop them from laughing. “We go in there as a united front. No more ‘Number One’ ‘Number Two’ bullshit. From now on, it’s. . . Team Zero.”
