The Day That Was

It was extremely overwhelming for a group of children with some sort of band playing, the crowd cheering for them and signs showing their support for them.

Lillith never wanted any of it.

As the car neared people and Sir Hargreeves stepped out first the volume increased even louder, which only managed to get worse as they stepped out, Ben holding his hand out for Lillith to get out easier. The two were probably one of the ones who hated the attention the most, holding their heads down as they walked past the barricades of people.

But then in front of her she saw a young boy wearing a similar uniform to them with a paper mask grab onto Allison.

“Excuse me,” he said, holding tightly onto her arm.

“What?” She turned and said angrily.

“I’m your biggest fan,” he said before being grabbed by Luther.

Hargreeves then spotted him before he pointed at the barricade, “Get back behind the barricade!”

Lillith stopped walking for a second, feeling sorry for the boy and what he was going through. He was either just a child who wanted attention or he needed some sort of psychological help.

“It’s just. I was born on the same day as the Academy kids. I think I’m like them. I must be. I haven't quite figured out what my power is. . . yet. But maybe with your help, we can find out.”

Then Hargreeves crouched down to him, staring down at him using his stupid monocle, “You have no power. You never will have power, now go home.”

Lillith wanted to listen a bit more, maybe even try to comfort the child who must be going through the wars with his emotions but Diego came over to her, held her gently by the hand, his other arm on the small of her back to lead her inside.

“I really hope he’s okay,” she whispered.

Allison quickly took the paper off of them, opening it up before reading out the name, “Harold Jenkins?”

“Who the fuck is Harold Jenkins?” Lillith and Diego said at the same time.

“Absolutely no clue,” Mila responded.

Five finished off the last bit of his coffee before throwing it behind him, “I don't know. . . yet. But I do know that he’s responsible for the apocalypse. So we have to find him and we have to do it now.”

Someone does really need to check that man– boy? – for some sort of addiction to caffeine. Lillith thought she had a little bit of an addiction herself, but wow, her brother is really putting her to shame. And it’s not as if his ‘friend’ is any better, she just partially hides it a little bit better.

“But how is he connected to what’s gonna happen?” Luther asked, as confused as everyone else.

“I don't know,” Mila told them.

“Wait, so you just know his name?” Diego asked, stepping forwards slightly. “That’s it?”

Five shook his head slightly, “That’s enough.”
