Charlotte Begins part one

Sabrina Carpenter as Teenage Charlotte Nash

Minnesota 2013

Charlotte slowly opened her eyes, her vision blurry and her head pounding. As the haze cleared, she found herself in a room that seemed oddly familiar. She could hear voices coming from the other room. Looking around, she realized she was standing in her old room back in Minnesota. The posters on the walls, the familiar scent of her childhood—all of it was unmistakably hers.

Confused and disoriented, Charlotte walked into the bathroom and stared into the mirror. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw her reflection. It was her, but not as she knew herself now. Staring back at her was her younger self, wide-eyed and full of life. "Holy shit," Charlotte whispered, her mind reeling. How was this possible? She reached out to touch the mirror, half-expecting the image to vanish, but it remained. The voices in the other room grew louder, pulling her out of her shock.

A sudden knock came from her door, "C-come in?" Charlotte said.

"Hey Char, Mommy said it's time for dinner."

Charlotte stood in shock, seeing her baby sister walking up to her, looking exactly as she had years ago, her eyes still sparkled. "Brookie?" Charlotte whispered.

"Yeah?"

Charlotte suddenly engulfed her little sister in a hug, tears forming in her eyes. She held on tightly, overwhelmed by a mix of joy and disbelief, cherishing the moment she thought she'd never experience again.

Charlotte slowly regained consciousness, her mind emerging from a haze of darkness. Her head throbbed, and she felt disoriented, struggling to piece together what had happened. "Brookie," Charlotte mumbled as her senses gradually returned, she became aware of a cold, hard surface beneath her and a dull ache in her limbs. Her eyelids fluttered open, and she found herself in a dimly lit room. Panic surged through her as she realized she couldn't move freely.

Heavy, metallic chains encircled her wrists and ankles, their icy touch sending shivers down her spine. The chains clinked ominously with her slightest movement, a cruel reminder of her captivity. Charlotte could smell a faint smoky smell coming from the other room and a loud noise. Whoever had captured her was just on the other side of that wall. She tried to say something, but no words were coming out of her mouth.

Overwhelmed by terror and the lingering effects of the chemicals, her vision blurred once more, and she felt herself slipping back into unconsciousness, the oppressive darkness closing in around her.

To say the 118 was in a frantic panic would be an understatement. Doug had found Maddie last night, abducted her, and stabbed Chimney in the process. Eddie felt awful about the whole situation and even more awful that he hadn't told Charlotte about any of it. He knew she would want to help with the search.

The next day, Eddie was waiting outside Charlotte's apartment for their planned breakfast. He sent her a text to let her know he had arrived, expecting her to come down quickly as she usually did. Minutes passed, and there was no response. He texted again, but still, there was nothing. A knot of worry formed in his stomach. Charlotte was always prompt and responsive.

Realizing something was wrong, Eddie's anxiety grew. After a few more attempts to reach her, he decided to head to the police station. Something was definitely not right, and he knew he couldn't waste any more time.

"Hey," John said to Jackson as they began to walk to roll call.

"Have you seen Lucy or Charlie?" Jackson asked worried as neither of the two came home last night like they said they would.
