Hours passed, and there was still no change with Chris. The bleeding hadn't slowed, making surgery impossible. Charlotte glanced away from the scene, feeling overwhelmed, and instinctively reached for Jackson's hand. He was still watching intently from the other side of the door, his grip tightening as they silently supported each other, waiting for any sign of hope.
Suddenly, the heart monitor emitted a sharp, continuous tone—Chris had flatlined. The doctors sprang into action, grabbing the defibrillator paddles. "Clear!" one of them shouted, pressing the paddles to Chris's chest. His body jolted from the shock, but the monitor showed no change.
Charlotte and Jackson watched through the glass, tears streaming down their faces as they clung to each other. The silent tears conveyed the depth of their fear and helplessness, both barely holding onto hope as they witnessed the desperate attempts to bring Chris back.
After what felt like an eternity, the doctors stepped back, their faces solemn as the flatline continued its unrelenting tone.
Grace emerged from the trauma room, her expression weighed down with sorrow. She approached Charlotte and Jackson slowly, her eyes filled with the pain of what she had to say. "I'm so sorry," she whispered. "He didn't make it."
The words pierced the air, and Charlotte and Jackson stood frozen in disbelief. Silent tears streamed down their faces, their grief deep and raw as they clung to each other, trying to process the devastating loss.

Jackson, his hands trembling, pulled out his phone and scrolled to Lucy's number. With a deep breath, he pressed call, waiting as the phone rang on the other end. When she answered, he quietly explained what had happened, his voice barely steady as he relayed the news.
Meanwhile, Charlotte stepped aside to call Eddie. She waited for him to pick up, and when he did, she quickly told him about Chris and mentioned that she'd be going over to Jackson's for a while that night. She wasn't particularly close to Chris, but the weight of his loss still hit her hard.
As she ended the call, her heart heavy, Charlotte rejoined Jackson, who was still reeling from the weight of what he had just shared. The two stood together, enveloped in their shared grief, finding solace in each other's presence.

Their shift had ended a while ago, and Charlotte drove with Jackson and Lucy back to their apartment. Exhaustion weighed heavily on her, and as they rode in silence, she realized she felt numb, as if she didn't have any emotion left to feel. The day had drained her completely, leaving only a hollow ache as they pulled into the driveway and prepared to face the quiet of the night ahead.
Charlotte walked silently behind Jackson into her old apartment, the familiar surroundings doing little to ease the heaviness in her chest. "You want me to make you two some tea?" she offered softly.
"I'm okay..." Jackson replied, his voice barely audible, as Charlotte shook her head, feeling the weight of the moment.
"Come here," Lucy said gently, stepping forward and wrapping her arms around both of them. The three of them stood there in a tight embrace, drawing comfort from one another in the silence, letting the warmth of the hug ease some of the pain they all carried.
"Doesn't feel real, you know?" Jackson stated.
"I know," Lucy said softly, her voice filled with understanding. Just then, a knock sounded at the door, breaking the quiet moment.
Lucy walked over and looked through the peephole, "It's Emmett..." Lucy told the two.
"Yeah, uh, you two should talk," Jackson said, giving Lucy a nod before quietly leaving the room.
"I'll go check on him," Charlotte replied, squeezing Lucy's hand. "But you better tell me about this Emmett guy later, okay?" she added with a small, encouraging smile before following Jackson out of the room.
Charlotte found Jackson lying on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. The room was quiet, the dim light casting soft shadows across the walls. Without saying a word, she approached the bed and gently sat down beside him. She reached out, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, then slowly lay down next to him, offering silent support.
A few moments later, Lucy entered the room. She paused briefly, taking in the scene, then quietly moved to the other side of the bed. She slipped under the covers beside Jackson, her presence adding to the unspoken comfort they all shared. The three of them lay there together in the stillness, finding solace in simply being close, the weight of the day gradually easing as they held onto each other.

Later that night, Eddie arrived to pick up Charlotte. As she gathered her things and prepared to leave, he greeted her with a sympathetic smile, his concern evident. The night had taken a toll on both of them, and Eddie offered a quiet understanding as he helped her into the car. The drive was filled with a somber silence, the weight of the day's events hanging heavily in the air.
When Charlotte and Eddie finally arrived home, the house was quiet and still. Eddie turned to her, his eyes reflecting the exhaustion and concern of the day. Without saying a word, he pulled her into a long, comforting hug. Charlotte leaned into him, her shoulders shaking slightly as she let out a deep breath, allowing the day's tension and grief to release. Eddie held her close, offering a steady presence in the midst of the quiet, their embrace a silent promise of support and understanding.

Sometime that night, as Charlotte and Eddie lay sleeping, the quiet atmosphere of the room was interrupted by the sudden ring of Charlotte's phone. The sharp sound cut through the quiet, jolted her awake. She fumbled for her phone on the nightstand, her heart racing as she reached for it, hoping the call wasn't bringing more bad news.
"Hello?" Charlotte answered, her voice groggy but laced with concern.
"Sorry to wake you. But we need a new set of eyes on this surveillance video from the stadium. You think you can help us?" She heard Nyla's voice on the other end.
"Uh yeah... Do you want me to come now?"Charlotte asked through a yawn.
"We're outside your house already," She heard Nathan say.
"Give me a few minutes," Charlotte said hanging up the phone.
Eddie stirred beside her, his voice thick with sleep. "It's 1:30 a.m.?" he asked, glancing at the clock with a concerned expression.
"Yeah, they need a new set of eyes on some surveillance video," Charlotte explained, pulling herself out of bed. "I have to go help them."
Eddie sat up, his worry evident. "Are you sure you need to go right now?"
Charlotte leaned in and kissed him softly. "Don't worry. I'll be back soon," she reassured him, slipping on a sweater. "Just a few minutes and I'll be right back."
Eddie nodded, giving her a reassuring look. "Alright, be careful."
Charlotte stepped outside into the cool night air, the quiet of the neighborhood contrasting sharply with the urgency she felt. She walked down the driveway and spotted Nyla and Nathan waiting by Nathan's car, the streetlights casting long shadows.
Nyla was leaning against Nathan's car, while Nathan stood next to her, his posture tense as he glanced at his watch. They looked up as Charlotte approached, their faces reflecting a mix of relief and urgency.
"Sorry for the late call," Nyla said.
Nathan nodded in agreement. "We need your help with this surveillance video. Let's get going. We're going to Nolan's house. We'll explain what you missed earlier today."
