Charlotte stood at the kitchen counter, chopping up some vegetables for a side for the lemon chicken. The air was filled with a mix of garlic and herbs, which created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Eddie walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of beer and said, "something smells good."
"You always say that when I cook." Charlotte said, shaking her head as she placed the vegetables into a pan and placed them in the oven.
"So? I would say I'm giving compliments to the chef," Eddie said, walking over to her as she closed the oven drawer. He gently cupped her face, their eyes meeting for a moment before he leaned in and kissed her softly, the warmth of the kitchen matching the warmth between them.
Charlotte melted into the kiss, her hands resting on Eddie's chest as the scent of the meal they had prepared together filled the room.
As they pulled away from the kiss, Shannon walked into the room causing the two to awkwardly move apart from one another, "It smells so good Charlie! I assume this isn't Eddie's doing."
Charlotte laughed as Eddie looked offended by that, "Hey. I'm a fantastic cook."
"You almost burned down the house once back in Texas," Shannon reminded him."And you burned that casserole that one time you insisted on cooking us dinner," Charlotte said with a small smirk on her face.
Eddie crossed his arms, trying to look serious but failing so miserably, "Okay, okay. So maybe I haven't had the best experiences in the kitchen. But I'm a great taste-tester, and that's an essential part of cooking too!"
Charlotte and Shannon looked at one another and bursted out laughing. Eddie pouted slightly, "You two are no fun."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once dinner was ready, the four of them began to dig in. Charlotte laughed when Christopher told his dad that this was the best thing he had ever eaten. After finishing his meal, Christopher pushed back his chair and stood up. He gave his dad a quick hug before dashing off to his room, leaving the adults alone at the dining table.
Charlotte nudged Eddie, nodding at him once. Eddie took a deep breath and began, "Shannon, there's something we need to tell you. Charlotte is mo—" He was cut off as Charlotte's phone began to ring, interrupting the moment.
Charlotte let out a small sigh, "Seriously? Sorry, it's Jackson. You can continue telling her Eddie," Charlotte said as she stood up answering the phone.
"Tell me what?" Shannon asked as Charlotte quickly dashed into the kitchen leaving the two to talk.
"Jackson?"
"I have another reason you can add to your list of hating dogs," Jackson bluntly said.
"Oh?"
"Kojo destroyed my one of a kind letterman jacket! I was going to give the dog a chance but this took it too far!"
Charlotte silently cursed as she knew how important that jacket was to him, "Breathe Jackson. Don't do something you're gonna regret," Charlotte told him. "We can always find someone to sew it up. I think Hen's wife might know how to sew? I can ask her..."
"It's one of a kind. It's not going to be the same!"
"I know, but at least we can try to fix it... Did Kojo get into my room?""No. I think the dog doesn't like me. Tell Eddie I'm gonna need that air mattress tonight."
"Figuratively or literally?" Charlotte questioned as the other end was filled with a bark. "Jackson?"
"I'll call you back! Kojo!"
"Figuratively or literally?!" Charlotte said, raising her voice as Jackson ended the call.
Charlotte pinched the bridge of her nose when another call was coming through, "Hello?"
