EVERETT'S POV

Everett's seatbelt is the only thing preventing him from sliding out of his seat as his head lolls against the window.

Who knows how long the drive has been. Who knows how long this drug will stay in his system. Who knows if he'll make it out of this alive or dead.

"How many times did you shoot him?"

The darkness clouding Everett's mind refuses to lift all the way, but Russell's muffled voice is triggering enough to cut through it and temporarily grab Everett's attention as he struggles to stay alert.

"And you're certain you killed the bastard?" Russell asks, excitedly. "No, no. I need you to be sure..."

Killed who? Everett's heart pounds as he strains to hear the voice on the other end of the phone, but it's too faint to make out. His thoughts spiral.

Who was killed? Finn? Gavin, maybe? Or...Knox?

"They're doing what?" Russell is quiet for a moment, then his hand smacks the back of the driver's seat. "No—Where the hell are you right now?" His tone rises with each word. "Hello? Hello?!"

"Everything alright, sir?" the driver asks, concerned.

"For now." Russell sighs heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Just get us to the airport as quickly as you can and without drawing any attention. The last thing we need is to fucking get pulled over."

Airport? No... Panic seizes Everett once again as he strains against his paralysis, silently begging for his body to move.

His right index finger twitches, a minor improvement, but everything else remains out of service. Tears of rage blur his vision and spill down his cheeks. He has to get out of here. Has to get back to Knox somehow.

Someone he knows has been killed, which is yet another death for Knox to carry for the rest of his life.

Did Gavin actually go through with Finn's insane plan to use himself as bait? Or maybe this is Knox acting out on his own and someone got hurt in response?

All guesses worsen Everett's headache, and he squeezes his eyes shut against the horrifying possibilities.

I have to get away from this psycho. I can't die like this...

He channels all his energy and focus into his hands. But again, he only manages a feeble twitch of the same finger as before. The effort this time drains him completely. A choked sob escapes his lips.

Russell finally notices the tears with a cruel smile playing on his face.

"Why the tears, child?" Russell calls out. "You should be excited about starting this new chapter of your life. You won't have to deal with all this death and madness anymore." He reaches out, brushing a tear from Everett's cheek. "All you'll have to do from here on out is serve your new master and focus on keeping him happy. Sounds easy enough, right?"
