Addison's POV:
I heard Tia let out this furious roar, followed by a loud slam from within Marshall's forge.
Edward screamed, desperately trying to get away from her.
Watching from where I stood by the Weeping Willow's balcony guard railing, I watched as Marshall darted away from the space beside me, performing a dizzying spiral toward the ground.
Within a few moments, he reemerged from the shadows, holding a severely burned Edward by his collar. "Tia pushed him into an active fire pit."
"LET ME GO!" The prince screeched, wincing as the blacksmith dropped him onto the marble platform. "We should have killed that hybrid while we had the chance, she's unpredictable!"
"Tia doesn't attack unless provoked," I replied bluntly, examining my fingernails. "What did you do this time, Your Majesty?"
He glared at me, flinching as the burns on his skin continued to bubble up. "I told her some news that you guys should have heard..."
"If it made Tia mad, it might infuriate me, too." Marshall warned, an agitated puff of smoke coming out of his nostrils. "Tell us so we can have a decent excuse to beat the daylight out of you."
The prince hesitated for a moment before he repeated what he said to Tia. "My mother wants her to be the next queen of Northwynd."
The captain abruptly came sprinting up the tree trunk, lunging at Edward with her incredibly sharp canines.
He let out an agonized scream as she tore into his shoulder, scarlet blood gushing out of the fresh wound.
I simply watched, wishing for a bucket of popcorn as Tia threw him over the guard railing a feral dog, sending him a couple stories down.
"Man, that was good," Marshall smiled, approaching her. "You still have a ton of fight left in you even though the past few days hit you like a truck. You're perseverant."
"No, I'm just spiteful." She snorted, wiping some of the crimson blood from her mouth. "Also, he tastes bitter. I don't recommend biting him."
Edward let out a distant groan of pain from where he landed, splayed out on a pile of textbooks.
"Oh no!" I cried, looking down below at the scene. "Please tell me that the books are okay, I can't let them get tainted!"
Marshall laughed, flapping his wings. "Ha! You're funny, Addi. Don't worry, the books are fine... But the prince on top of them clearly isn't."
Tia stood beside me, flicking her whale tail and staring at Edward's limp body. "Sucks to be you. I hope you don't live long enough for me to have to marry you."
"Screw you and your stupid knight boyfriend..." He groaned, weakly getting himself up.
She went silent, turning to Marshall with her eyes slowly going dull. "Do you have a flat, heavy object?"
The blacksmith handed her a heavy stone tablet that sat as a decorative piece on the edge of the guard railing. "Will this do?"
The captain took the piece, holding it in her hands, a sinister grin spreading across her battle-scarred face. "Perfect."
She promptly threw it off the balcony, throwing it with extreme force.
It slammed square into Edward's chest, knocking the breath out of him but not enough to get him to fall unconscious. "YOU LITTLE- AGH!"
"Oops, that was an accident." Tia smiled, turning to whisper to Marshall. "Do you have another one of those?"
"Let's not hurt the prince before anything too bad happens to us," Marshall chuckled. "We could be executed for that."
"I hate you all!" Edward screamed, slowly falling unconscious, succumbing to the pain.
We stood there for a solid five minutes before one of us acted upon the situation.
"We should totally go out for food." Marshall suggested, awkwardly eyeing between Tia and me.
"Perfect!" I agreed. "Where to?"
"Pyronica. I know a place," He replied, breathing out a plume of light smoke. "Addison, you should probably heal Edward before he dies. Probably."
I blinked, remembering the half-dead body on the pile of textbooks. "Oops, thanks for reminding me. I'll go do that right now... Because of my fantastic moral compass."
Extending my hand over the edge of the guard rail, I cast a temporary spell on the prince, bringing him back to consciousness and restoring him to full health.
"How are we gonna get to Pyronica, though?" I asked, watching Marshall adjust his sooty glasses. "We're out in the middle of nowhere, but we're separated by this massive ocean. I can't create a spell that can teleport us all there; It's thousands of miles away, and a thousand too many."
"Have you forgotten I'm officially a captain now? I can sail us there." Tia offered, lashing her bandage-wrapped whale tail on the marble tiles. "My boat's in good condition, and I have a fake name and identity. Y'know how everyone knows I dead, right?"
"Oh, yeah." I sucked in a breath through my teeth. "Forgot about that."
"My new name is..." The captain said, silently looking down at her uninjured hand. "Whatever, forget the name. No one's gonna recognize me, anyways. I'll be too battle-scarred and covered in gauze to seem familiar to anyone."
"Let's go, then." Marshall nodded, lifting into the air. "I'll pick up Edward. Addison, when you float down, could you pick up Sophii, too? I'll meet you guys at the ground."
"Yeah, sure!" I replied, watching him glide downward. "I'll get her."
"Nope, I got you." The shadowshifter meowed, promptly leaping onto me and clinging to my leg like a koala. "I can travel like this, no worries."
As we all traveled down the floating island, I knew that together, we would be safe.
Nothing could hurt us if we stuck together, right?
