Sir Nyx's POV:

By the time Sophii and I got out of the royal guard barracks, the fight was already over.

Tia was sobbing into King Arthur's shoulder, who was receiving treatment for physical wounds from his counterpart.

Sir Whitecap was tending to Sir Subzero and Marshall, who both took a lethal amount of Darkness but somehow survived.

Addison and Don were knocked out cold, but if they weren't going to receive any medical attention any time soon, they'd get into Purgatory soon enough.

Sir Blanco was restraining Sir Blizzard, wrapping a makeshift tourniquet around the smaller knight's wound while Sir Snowstorm held his brother in place.

Everyone was in critical condition.

"Nyx!" Prince Edward shouted, grabbing my attention. "Come over here, check this out!"

I followed his order, approaching where he stood with Sophii at my heels. "Yes, Your Majesty?"

He knelt down beside Don's unconscious body, digging into the pocket of his tuxedo and pulling out a burned scroll. "Read this, it seems important."

"I didn't know you were illiterate." The shadowshifter teased, receiving a playful swat from the prince. "I'm kidding!"

"You better be." He snorted, handing me the scroll. "Nyx, may you please read this aloud for me?"

I gave him a nod. "Yes, of course."

I lifted the visor of my helmet, unraveling the scroll before I began to speak.

"Dearest Addison Reece,

I know you don't enjoy people beating around the bush when they want to get their point across, so I'll make this simple for you. Marry me. I'll make you safe and happy wherever you are. I'll take you to the Everhallow Metamorphosis event. I'm not afraid to love you. I-"

"STOP IT!" Addison abruptly cried out, startling me. "He was going to propose to me, and now he's dead!"

"Cry about it!" Tia snapped, fiercely glaring down at the librarian's weakened form. "You betrayed the team and left for some random bird guy you barely even know! For all I care, YOU should have died!"

I watched as the captain rose from where she knelt down beside King Arthur, charging her frostbreath and aiming directly at her target's face.

"Don't intervene," Prince Edward warned me. "Not worth the pain. Frostbreath scars are hard to heal, even with magic..."

I didn't need his warning; I was already afraid enough.

Before Tia could send Addison into Purgatory herself, the king rose from where he sat, firmly planting a hand on his apprentice's shoulder. "If she dies, you know what happens."

Something sparked in the captain's eyes as she stared down at the ground, averting her gaze from the sorceress beside her. "I know... But does it really matter if the Horizon Library falls?"

The Horizon Library? I heard the name from somewhere, but... Where?

"That's where we live," The prince whispered, shyly putting a hand on my shoulder. "Also, uhm, this is getting scary. Tia isn't usually this much of a deep thinker."

"I'd turn you into an ice cube but your father's my best friend." The captain huffed at him, backing away from Addison. "Whitecap, heal these two and throw them in whatever dungeon we have. If we don't have a dungeon, tie them up and throw them in the harbor."
