Sir Nyx's POV:
Seven days have passed since the old Prince Edward succumbed to the spell's effects on him.
This new version of the prince was much better than we expected.
He treated everyone around him with respect, kindness, and made sure they were treated well.
To our surprise, he was also very considerate about whether a person was comfortable or not.
It was almost as if he was a completely different person.
After a few more days of Permafrost perfecting the magic while he was asleep, apparently Whitecap had come in and restored the memories that Prince Edward lost.
He remembered how poorly he treated everyone, and with his artificial moral compass, he felt the guilt he needed to and wanted to apologize to everyone at once.
However, in his weakened state, it was difficult to move.
I decided to slowly pull his friends, one by one, so he could speak to them and regain their trust.
The phoenix was the first one; Even though he looked like he had quite the fiery temper, he was surprisingly calm and collected. They fared well together.
After that was who I assumed was the phoenix's partner, Addison. When I say partner, I mean friend. They were friends. The two of them exchanged a few words and left with no further details.
Tia was a little skittish about the mere mention of the concept of speaking to Prince Edward, so I decided to give her a pep talk before she went in.
However, she decided to speak to him, and I think they're in good terms because I didn't hear anyone get turned into an ice cube.Sophii, obviously, is a cat capable of human speech. Addison explained that she was a shadowshifter that simply preferred to walk on four legs, so I took that as an answer and let her speak to the prince.
The five of them ended up bonding closer together, which is nice.
We were lounging in the courtyard, left with the gate open and the snow covering our waists.
Tia was huddled beside King Arthur as usual like a chick to a heat lamp.
Addison and Marshall were reading a book, with the phoenix's wings melting away the snow around them.
I held Sophii in my hands, watching Prince Edward and Blizzard have a simple chat.
My fellow knight had his helmet off, revealing frost-white locks of hair that flowed from his head, complimenting his icy blue eyes.
I couldn't tell if his skin was tinted pink from the cold, or he was blushing.
"Oh, hello, Sir Nyx." The prince greeted me as I came over. "We were just addressing when the sheet cold would end. Seven days and Northwynd will be back to normal."
I smiled at him from under my ivory helmet. "Good to know. Should be notify the people?"
"My father already has sent out a couple of other knights to preach the news." He replied, looking up at the indigo sky. "It sure is beautiful out here tonight. Then again, it always has been."
Blizzard looked like he was out to say something, but no words came out of his mouth.
"Shouldn't we go inside?" I asked the knight, tipping my head at him. "It is quite cold out here for us."
"He's radiating warmth." Sophii meowed, wriggling out of my arms and plopping into the deep snow. "Yeah, he's warm. He'll be fine."
She was burrowing into the snow like a mole, pawing her way around Blizzard's lanky legs and circling his boots.
"Could you please not do that?" The knight laughed nervously, shifting backwards. "I don't want to step on your tail or anything."
He bumped up against Prince Edward, tripping into him and pressing his back up against his chest.
Blizzard's pale face went a deep red as he abruptly steadied himself, swiftly shoving his helmet back onto his head. "I am so, so sorry Your Majesty! Please forgive me, I didn't mean-"
"Oh, you're fine!" The prince chuckled, gently laying his hands on the knight's shoulders. "In more ways than one, heh... The cold's getting to you too, isn't it? Let me tell you, frostbite's a killer nowadays."
Permafrost really outdid herself; She didn't just make him more charismatic, she made him a keeper.
I wished I was in Blizzard's place.
Addison must have seen what was going on; Her face had this mischievous grin plastered on it.
I could see what she was thinking even with the hood shadowing her face.
"Addi, no." Marshall sighed, waving a gloved hand in front of her face. "We're still reading the book and I'm not going to continue without you."
"But... Romance..." She breathed, watching Edward and Blizzard exchange apologies.
"No." The blacksmith shielded her view of them with one wing. "Look at me."
I couldn't tell what else was going behind those fiery feathers, and I decided not to pay any attention.
Tia was close by, her head covered in snow.
"I look kinda like you now!" She laughed, lifting her head from the thick, powdery layer.
King Arthur stood beside her, stifling a chuckle. "Is this your impression of me, really? That's it?"
A frosty, white beard of snow covered her face from the nose down.
"Why yes, Your Highness." She said in a bold, hearty tone. "I'm acting like the stereotypical king, not you, obviously."
She abruptly sneezed, resulting in all of the snow falling from her body.
"Looks like someone's about to catch a cold." The king joked, patting her on the back. "C'mon everyone, let's go inside before more of us risk getting sick. I can't have more than one of you condemned to the infirmary when we need you the most."
He wasn't wrong.
After we all gathered inside, Blizzard offered to make us all drinks, standing beside Edward as he passed them around.
I wouldn't be surprised if I saw those two men outside the kingdom together.
Now that I think of it, we might all be getting along with Prince Edward for once.
Or maybe he's getting along with us instead.
It doesn't matter though.
As long as we live in harmony, nothing can go wrong.
...Right?
