Marshall's POV:

I never thought I'd be in a situation like this.

My best friend practically holding me by the throat, threatening to hurt me with the very magic she used to heal me.

She was firmly holding me down with her sheer glare alone, pinning me in place.

Even though my wings were spread out to intimidate her, they only seemed to weigh me down.

Was she actually scaring me?

Yes, yes she was.

In that moment, we decided to take our little dispute outside.

Don was busy dipping his charred wings into the nearest body of water, unaware of the fight about to begin.

I wish I could have incinerated them clean off, but then again, he needs to know his place.

Addison and I were circling each other around the outside of the Fyre and Flames Grill, intensely glaring each other down.

A crowd of bystanders stood around us, not willing to intervene if either one of us threw the first punch.

The sorceress kept her hand close to my neck, letting the clouds of Darkness swirl around her wrist.

It was intimidating, but I did my best to not seem scared.

"Don't do something you'll regret." I warned her, adjusting my leather gloves.

"I'd give you the same advice, yet here we are." She scoffed, pulling her cloak's hood over her head. "Marshall, what got into you? This isn't you at all."

"Neither is this you." I replied. "You've fallen for that crow, I can see it in your eyes. Can't you see that he's a-"

"Wonderful human being just like you and I?" The sorcerer interrupted, pausing in her tracks.

I let out an exasperated sigh, shoving my gloves into my pocket. "I'm not human. He isn't, either."

"I know, but then again, are any of us truly human?" Addison countered, slowly lowering her hand.

I took a moment to think about her statement. "No."

Then, I heard the familiar sound of boots clicking from somewhere behind me, paired with the sound of something swishing against the floor.

"You're supposed to be in Everhallow." I huffed, recognizing Tia's silent presence. "Go back to fighting with dragons or whatever. Don't intervene or I'll have to hurt you, too."

A dangerously low hiss cut through the warm, nighttime air. "Such a bold ssstatement."

I turned my head to the side, breaking eye contact with Addison. "King Lance?"

Not to my surprise, the royal serpent was coiled up just beside the captain, slithering between the people in the crowd. "Who else could it be?"

"Don't come any closer!" Don cried out, briefly apologizing to Kairo, who was taking the ice buckets away from his wet wings. "He'll burn you if you even look at him, he's probably rabid!"

"I doubt it." Tia challenged, stepping to the side and calmly approaching me. "Marshall, what got into you? Need to blow off some steam?"

She was unusually calm, her arms spread out in a harmless gesture... Almost as if she was welcoming me.

"Why are you suddenly being so nice to me?" I asked her, completely forgetting about the ordeal with Addison and Don. "What happened?"
