Addison's POV:

Two days had passed since I performed a sleeping spell on Marshall.

I had hit him while he was distracted, knocking him out cold while I made my great escape with Don.

It hurt me to know that I had probably lost the trust of my best friend, but what else could I do?

He wouldn't listen to me just because I have a friend from Spiritvale.

Discrimination at its finest, I guess.

Don hijacked one of the small sailboats near Pyronica's main harbor, quickly sailing us toward Spiritvale's coast.

Tia saw us run, but she didn't try to come after us.

All she did was fix me with her coldest glare before taking care of Marshall.

King Lance witnessed it too... Hopefully he didn't recognize me.

The bystanders just stared as I ran past with the Raven Prince of Spiritvale, probably assuming that I was either his partner in crime or his secret lover.

Either way, we were both runaways now.

There was no chance we were going back.

Out here in the open ocean, Don and I decided to sleep for the night and sail to Spiritvale tomorrow morning.

I used some of my dark magic to check our current location, leaning against Don in the captain's quarters.

We were several hundred nautical miles away from land, with not a single boat in sight.

"Uh oh, guess you're stuck with just me for the night." The Raven Prince teased, giving me a playful grin.

"You're such a weirdo," I laughed, returning his gesture with a playful shove. "If anyone heard that, you'd be in trouble."

"That's the thing, Addi." He smiled, his lavender-amber gaze locking with mine.

"No one's here to hear us."

At that moment, I realized that I was completely alone for the first time since... Forever.

Alone with Don, someone I had been friends with since childhood.

I had him all to myself for once.

No Marshall to barge in and call him a manipulative liar, no Tia to guide him to Baywharf and take him away from me, no one else was here...

Just me, him, and the stars in the moonlit sky.

Sounds like something out of one of my favorite romance novels, but I like to perceive this as an intimate get together.

"Lunarift to Addi, are you there?" Don chuckled, flapping out what remained of his burned wings.

I shook my head, zoning back into focus. "Sorry, went out of orbit. Did you say something?"

He shook his head, extending his free arm and wrapping it around my shoulder. "Nope. Just wanted to check in on you, as good friends should do."

"You've got a nice moral compass for someone from a notoriously bad place." I joked, looking up at the stars twinkling above us.

"That sounds like something Marshall would say," the Raven Prince snorted, following my gaze. "Hey, speaking of him..."

I felt his strong hand firmly squeeze my shoulder. "He's your best friend, right?"
